During the inspection of a truck transporting goods declared as synthetic hair, customs officials suspected that the description of the cargo did not match the type of product.

The truck had been selected by the system, based on the relevant criteria, for a documentation check and physical inspection.

Customs announced that, after examining the cargo, officials noticed possible discrepancies between the characteristics of the goods and the declaration submitted. This raised suspicions that the product consisted of natural hair rather than synthetic hair, as the declarant had claimed.

Laboratory analyses were conducted to determine its composition. According to Customs, chemical solubility tests identified the presence of natural fibers.

Qualitative FT-IR spectral analyses also confirmed that each of the samples examined was keratinous/protein-based material, namely natural hair or fibers.

Following these findings, Kosovo Customs announced that the entity had been cited for a customs violation for incorrectly declaring the goods. The declaration had enabled the avoidance of customs duties amounting to approximately 4,310 euros.
