Macedonia’s economy recorded real growth of 4.3% in the second quarter of 2026, accelerating from the 3.1% growth registered in the first quarter. Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Koçoska said at today’s press conference, where she presented the latest GDP data from the State Statistical Office, that this was one of the highest quarterly growth rates recorded in the past two and a half years.

According to her, the data show that this is not an isolated result, but part of an ongoing process. From growth of 1.6% in the first quarter of 2024, the economy has reached 4.3%, while maintaining positive growth rates for ten consecutive quarters. For most of this period, growth was around or above 3%, Dimitrieska-Koçoska noted.

The minister pointed out that the improvement in economic activity is also confirmed by a comparison of the two halves of 2024. Growth accelerated from 2.3% in the first six months to 3.6% in the second half of the year. During 2025, the economy recorded real growth of 3.5%, and the positive trend continued into 2026.

According to her, second-quarter growth was supported by a broad base of economic activity. Gross investment rose by 16.5% in real terms, while exports of goods and services expanded by 10.4%, following growth of 6.2% in the first quarter.

Improvement was also recorded in the productive sectors. Construction grew by 21.9%, manufacturing by 4.1%, trade, transport and hospitality by 4.1%, and the information and communications sector by 4.3%. At the same time, final consumption rose by 2.8%, while household consumption increased by 3.3%.

“Growth of 4.3% in real terms, or 8.3% in nominal terms, was achieved in a significantly more complex economic environment, characterized by moderate growth in the European economy, continued global uncertainty and pronounced geopolitical risks,” Dimitrieska-Koçoska said. She added that this result is particularly significant for a small and open economy such as Macedonia’s, which is closely linked to the European market.

With a growth rate of 4.3% in the second quarter of 2026, Macedonia ranks among the fastest-growing European economies. According to the available data, higher growth was recorded by Slovenia at 5%, Denmark at 4.7% and Malta at 4.5%.

The minister emphasized that Macedonia’s result is significantly above the European Union average of 1.2%, as well as the eurozone average of 1.0%. In the region, the country’s growth rate is higher than Serbia’s 3.8%, Bulgaria’s 2.5% and Croatia’s 1.7%.

The continuation of positive developments is also evident in high-frequency indicators. Industrial production grew by an average of around 4% in the second quarter, while civil engineering works recorded average growth of 53.5%. In July, industrial production rose by 1.3% year-on-year, while manufacturing registered growth of 3.4%.

Alongside the acceleration in economic activity, inflation declined significantly. The annual rate, which stood at 4.8% in May, fell to 3.4% in June and 2.3% in July. This represents a decrease of 2.5 percentage points in just two months.

Dimitrieska-Koçoska said that the Government and the Ministry of Finance would continue pursuing policies aimed at creating conditions for higher and sustainable growth, implementing capital projects, supporting the private sector and investment, improving the business climate and responsibly managing public finances.

According to the minister, the goal is for the economy’s positive results to translate into a higher standard of living for citizens, more opportunities for companies, new investment and a stronger, more competitive Macedonian economy.

Ekonomia e Maqedonisë shënoi rritje reale prej 4.3% në tremujorin e dytë të vitit 2026, duke përshpejtuar ritmin në krahasim me rritjen prej 3.1% të regjistruar në tremujorin e parë. Ministrja e Financave, Gordana Dimitrieska-Koçoska, tha në konferencën e sotme për shtyp, ku prezantoi të dhënat e fundit të PBB-së nga Enti Shtetëror i Statistikave, se bëhet fjalë për një nga normat më të larta të rritjes tremujore në dy vitet e gjysmë të fundit.

Sipas saj, të dhënat dëshmojnë se nuk bëhet fjalë për një rezultat të izoluar, por për një proces të vazhdueshëm. Nga rritja prej 1.6% në tremujorin e parë të vitit 2024, ekonomia ka arritur në 4.3%, ndërsa për dhjetë tremujorë radhazi ka ruajtur ritme pozitive. Në pjesën më të madhe të kësaj periudhe, rritja ka qenë rreth ose mbi 3%, theksoi Dimitrieska-Koçoska.

Ministrja vuri në dukje se përmirësimi i aktivitetit ekonomik konfirmohet edhe nga krahasimi i dy gjysmëvjetorëve të vitit 2024. Rritja prej 2.3% në gjashtëmujorin e parë u përshpejtua në 3.6% në gjashtëmujorin e dytë. Gjatë vitit 2025, ekonomia shënoi rritje reale prej 3.5%, ndërsa ecuria pozitive vazhdoi edhe në vitin 2026.

Rritja e tremujorit të dytë, sipas saj, mbështetet në një bazë të gjerë të aktivitetit ekonomik. Investimet bruto u rritën realisht me 16.5%, ndërsa eksporti i mallrave dhe shërbimeve u zgjerua me 10.4%, pas rritjes prej 6.2% në tremujorin e parë.

Përmirësim është evidentuar edhe në sektorët prodhues. Ndërtimtaria u rrit me 21.9%, industria e përpunimit me 4.1%, tregtia, transporti dhe hoteleria me 4.1%, ndërsa sektori i informacionit dhe komunikimit me 4.3%. Në të njëjtën kohë, konsumi final u rrit me 2.8%, ndërsa konsumi i amvisërive me 3.3%.

“Rritja prej 4.3% në terma realë, respektivisht 8.3% në terma nominalë, është realizuar në një mjedis ekonomik dukshëm më të ndërlikuar, të karakterizuar nga rritje e moderuar e ekonomisë evropiane, pasiguri të vazhdueshme globale dhe rreziqe të theksuara gjeopolitike”, deklaroi Dimitrieska-Koçoska. Ajo shtoi se ky rezultat është veçanërisht i rëndësishëm për një ekonomi të vogël dhe të hapur, si ajo e Maqedonisë, e cila është e lidhur ngushtë me tregun evropian.

Me normën prej 4.3% në tremujorin e dytë të vitit 2026, Maqedonia renditet ndër ekonomitë evropiane me rritjen më të lartë. Sipas të dhënave të disponueshme, një rritje më të madhe kanë shënuar Sllovenia me 5%, Danimarka me 4.7% dhe Malta me 4.5%.

Ministrja theksoi se rezultati i Maqedonisë është dukshëm mbi mesataren e Bashkimit Evropian, e cila është 1.2%, si dhe mbi mesataren e eurozonës prej 1.0%. Në rajon, norma e rritjes së vendit është më e lartë se ajo e Serbisë prej 3.8%, Bullgarisë prej 2.5% dhe Kroacisë prej 1.7%.

Vazhdimësia e zhvillimeve pozitive shihet edhe në treguesit me frekuencë të lartë. Prodhimi industrial në tremujorin e dytë u rrit mesatarisht me rreth 4%, ndërsa ndërtimet e ulëta shënuan rritje mesatare prej 53.5%. Në korrik, prodhimi industrial u rrit me 1.3% në nivel vjetor, kurse industria e përpunimit regjistroi rritje prej 3.4%.

Paralelisht me përshpejtimin e aktivitetit ekonomik, inflacioni shënoi rënie të ndjeshme. Norma vjetore, e cila në maj ishte 4.8%, zbriti në 3.4% në qershor dhe në 2.3% në korrik. Kjo përfaqëson një ulje prej 2.5 pikë përqindjeje brenda vetëm dy muajve.

Dimitrieska-Koçoska bëri të ditur se Qeveria dhe Ministria e Financave do të vazhdojnë politikat që synojnë krijimin e kushteve për rritje më të lartë dhe të qëndrueshme, zbatimin e projekteve kapitale, përkrahjen e sektorit privat dhe investimeve, përmirësimin e klimës së biznesit dhe administrimin e përgjegjshëm të financave publike.

Qëllimi, sipas ministres, është që rezultatet pozitive të ekonomisë të përkthehen në një standard më të lartë jetese për qytetarët, më shumë mundësi për kompanitë, investime të reja dhe një ekonomi më të fuqishme e më konkurruese të Maqedonisë.

Sipas Dimitarieska-Koçoskës, ngritja e nivelit profesional të revizionit do të ndihmojë që fondet publike të administrohen në mënyrë më efikase, të ligjshme dhe të përgjegjshme.

Ajo nënvizoi se këto veprime janë pjesë e reformave që synojnë forcimin e kontrollit financiar dhe përafrimin me standardet evropiane, në kuadër të Kapitullit 32 – Kontrolli Financiar.

Gordana Dimitrieska-Koçoska said today that political will alone is not sufficient to implement strategic projects. According to the finance minister, a stable, long-term financial framework is also needed.

She made the statement at the Government building ahead of the signing of agreements related to financing the construction of the Kriva Palanka–Deve Bair railway segment, which is part of Corridor 8.

The minister explained that the signed amendments to the financing agreements, together with the grant agreement, complete the financial structure needed for the full implementation of the project.

According to Dimitrieska-Koçoska, the document enables the implementation of one of the country’s most important infrastructure projects to proceed without obstacles. She stressed that the project will improve the connection between the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea, deepen economic integration, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and open up new opportunities for the development of the economy and the entire region.

Funding for the third segment has been secured with the support of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The minister described these institutions as the country’s long-standing partners in development projects.

Dimitrieska-Koçoska also said that over the past two years, the Government has worked to accelerate the implementation of projects that had stalled, alongside the launch of new investments.

She announced that, through the 2026 Budget Revision, an additional 5.8 billion denars had been allocated for capital expenditures. This amount represents an increase of 14.3 percent compared with the funds initially planned.

In conclusion, the minister said that responsible management of public finances, securing funds for capital investments, and cooperation with international financial institutions lay the foundations for sustainable economic growth, greater competitiveness, and the country’s faster integration into European transport and economic flows.

Gordana Dimitrieska‑Koçoska deklaroi sot se vullneti politik, i vetëm, nuk është i mjaftueshëm për zbatimin e projekteve strategjike. Sipas ministres së Financave, për këtë nevojitet edhe një kornizë financiare e qëndrueshme dhe afatgjatë.

Deklarata e saj u bë në Qeveri, përpara nënshkrimit të marrëveshjeve që lidhen me financimin e ndërtimit të segmentit hekurudhor Kriva Pallankë – Deve Bair, i cili është pjesë e Korridorit 8.

Ministrja sqaroi se amendamentet e nënshkruara të marrëveshjeve për financim, së bashku me marrëveshjen e grantit, kompletojnë konstruksionin financiar të nevojshëm për realizimin e plotë të projektit.

Sipas Dimitrieska‑Koçoskës, dokumenti mundëson që zbatimi i një prej projekteve infrastrukturore më të rëndësishme në shtet të vijojë pa pengesa. Ajo theksoi se projekti do të përmirësojë lidhjen ndërmjet Detit Adriatik dhe Detit të Zi, do të thellojë integrimin ekonomik, do të lehtësojë qarkullimin e njerëzve dhe mallrave, si dhe do të hapë mundësi të reja për zhvillimin e ekonomisë dhe të gjithë rajonit.

Për segmentin e tretë, mjetet financiare janë siguruar me përkrahjen e Bankës Evropiane të Investimeve (BEI) dhe Bankës Evropiane për Rindërtim dhe Zhvillim (BERZH). Ministrja i cilësoi këto institucione si partnerë shumëvjeçarë të vendit në projektet zhvillimore.

Dimitrieska‑Koçoska tha gjithashtu se gjatë dy viteve të fundit Qeveria është angazhuar për të përshpejtuar realizimin e projekteve që kishin ngecur, paralelisht me fillimin e investimeve të reja.

Ajo bëri të ditur se, nëpërmjet Ribalancimit të Buxhetit për vitin 2026, për shpenzimet kapitale janë ndarë edhe 5,8 miliardë denarë. Kjo shumë përfaqëson një rritje prej 14,3 për qind në raport me fondet e parashikuara fillimisht.

Në përfundim, ministrja vlerësoi se administrimi me përgjegjësi i financave publike, sigurimi i fondeve për investime kapitale dhe bashkëpunimi me institucionet financiare ndërkombëtare vendosin themelet për rritje të qëndrueshme ekonomike, konkurrencë më të lartë dhe përfshirje më të shpejtë të shtetit në rrjedhat evropiane të transportit dhe ekonomisë.

The Ministry of Finance today published data on public and government debt for the second quarter of 2026. According to official figures, public debt stands at 58.8% of GDP, amounting to €10.726 billion in absolute terms.

Compared with the previous quarter, public debt fell by 0.1 percentage points, or by €21 million in absolute terms.

Meanwhile, the debt-to-GDP ratio in the second quarter of 2026 was 2.6 percentage points lower than at the end of 2024 and 0.6 percentage points lower than at the end of 2025.

During the second quarter of 2026, more than €300 million was paid to service part of the Eurobond. The Eurobond, with a total value of €700 million, was issued in 2020, while the bulk of it was repaid in the first quarter.

Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Koçoska said that public debt management had been successful so far.

“Public debt stood at 58.8% of GDP in the second quarter. Let us look at the level it reached in 2021 and where it stood in 2024. We managed all of this and brought matters under control. Believe me, it is not easy to operate with public debt hovering around 60% of GDP at all times and to fight to keep it from exceeding that threshold,” Dimitrieska-Koçoska told “RTVM.”

She said the borrowing limit, which in some cases is also viewed as a psychological threshold, may be exceeded, but stressed that the purpose of the funds and their impact on economic growth—which she said has continued in recent years—are particularly important./Telegrafi/

Ministria e Financave publikoi sot të dhënat për borxhin publik dhe shtetëror gjatë tremujorit të dytë të vitit 2026. Sipas shifrave zyrtare, borxhi publik përbën 58.8% të BPV-së, ndërsa në vlerë absolute arrin në 10.726 milionë euro.

Në krahasim me tremujorin paraardhës, niveli i borxhit publik ka rënë me 0.1 pikë përqindjeje, ose me 21 milionë euro në terma absolutë.

Ndërkaq, raporti i borxhit ndaj BPV-së në tremujorin e dytë të vitit 2026 është 2.6 pikë përqindjeje më i ulët se në fund të vitit 2024 dhe 0.6 pikë përqindjeje më i ulët krahasuar me gjendjen në fund të vitit 2025.

Gjatë tremujorit të dytë të vitit 2026, për shërbimin e një pjese të eurobondit u paguan më shumë se 300 milionë euro. Bëhet fjalë për një eurobond me vlerë totale prej 700 milionë eurosh, të emetuar në vitin 2020, ndërsa pjesa kryesore e tij ishte shlyer në tremujorin e parë.

Ministrja e Financave, Gordana Dimitrieska-Koçoska, deklaroi se menaxhimi i borxhit publik deri tani ka qenë i suksesshëm.

“Borxhi publik në tremujorin e dytë arriti në 58.8% të BPV-së. Le të shohim se sa arriti në vitin 2021 dhe sa ishte në vitin 2024. Ne arritëm t’i menaxhojmë të gjitha këto dhe t’i vëmë gjërat nën kontroll. Më besoni, nuk është e lehtë të lëvizësh me një nivel borxhi publik prej rreth 60% të PBB-së gjatë gjithë kohës dhe të luftosh që të mos e tejkalosh atë prag”, tha Dimitrieska-Koçoska në “RTVM”.

Ajo u shpreh se kufiri i huamarrjes, i cili në disa raste shihet edhe si një prag psikologjik, mund të tejkalohet, por theksoi se rëndësi të veçantë ka destinacioni i fondeve dhe ndikimi i tyre në rritjen ekonomike, e cila sipas saj ka vijuar gjatë viteve të fundit./Telegrafi/

The proposed supplementary revision of the 2026 Budget provides additional funds to accelerate capital investment, support agriculture and municipalities, and implement the Government’s development priorities. At the same time, it ensures the uninterrupted fulfillment of obligations arising from the law.

Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Koçoska presented the supplemented proposal to amend the 2026 Budget to MPs in Parliament. She said the planned measures aim to continue policies designed to maintain economic stability, foster development and ensure the responsible management of public finances.

According to the minister, the document includes both the measures proposed by the Government and the amendments adopted during its review by the relevant parliamentary committee. This further strengthens support for citizens and development-oriented policies.

Dimitrieska-Koçoska said the supplemented proposal for the 2026 Budget revision adjusts budget projections responsibly and in a timely manner to the new economic conditions. According to her, the document also guarantees the funds needed to meet legal obligations incurred in the meantime and to implement development priorities.

She explained that the changes enable the payment of increased salaries in sectors where pay rises have been planned, additional support for agriculture, greater funding for social protection and more resources for municipalities. The minister highlighted additional funding to accelerate the investment cycle and implement infrastructure projects as a key feature of the budget revision.

Although uncertainty in the global economy persists because of geopolitical developments, Dimitrieska-Koçoska emphasized that the Macedonian economy continues to demonstrate stability and resilience.

Gross domestic product is projected to record real growth of 3.5% in 2026. Investment is expected to be the main driver of economic activity, supported by the implementation of major infrastructure projects and capital investment at the central and local levels.

Projections foresee investment growth of 7.2% and an 8.3% increase in the average net salary. Unemployment is expected to fall further to 11%, while the employment rate is projected to reach 47%. Average inflation in 2026 is projected at 4.5%, driven mainly by external price pressures and geopolitical developments.

Particular attention was paid to the execution of capital expenditure. During the January–June period, it reached 19.4 billion denars, 53.5% higher than in the same period last year.

Sipas saj, dokumenti garanton gjithashtu fondet e nevojshme për detyrimet ligjore të krijuara ndërkohë dhe për zbatimin e prioriteteve zhvillimore.

Ajo sqaroi se ndryshimet mundësojnë pagesën e pagave të rritura në sektorët ku është planifikuar rritje, ndihmë shtesë për bujqësinë, fonde më të mëdha për mbrojtjen sociale dhe më shumë mjete për komunat. Si veçori kryesore të këtij ribalanci, ministrja veçoi financimin shtesë për përshpejtimin e ciklit të investimeve dhe zbatimin e projekteve infrastrukturore.

Edhe pse pasiguria në ekonominë botërore vazhdon për shkak të zhvillimeve gjeopolitike, Dimitrieska-Koçoska nënvizoi se ekonomia maqedonase po vijon të tregojë stabilitet dhe qëndrueshmëri.

Për vitin 2026 parashikohet që prodhimi i brendshëm bruto të shënojë rritje reale prej 3.5%. Investimet pritet të jenë motori kryesor i aktivitetit ekonomik, të mbështetura nga zbatimi i projekteve të mëdha infrastrukturore dhe nga investimet kapitale në nivel qendror dhe lokal.

Projeksionet parashikojnë rritje të investimeve me 7.2% dhe të pagës mesatare neto me 8.3%. Papunësia pritet të zbresë më tej në 11%, ndërsa shkalla e punësimit të arrijë në 47%. Për vitin 2026, inflacioni mesatar projektohet në 4.5%, i ndikuar kryesisht nga presionet e jashtme mbi çmimet dhe nga zhvillimet gjeopolitike.

Vëmendje e posaçme iu kushtua zbatimit të shpenzimeve kapitale. Gjatë periudhës janar–qershor, ato arritën në 19.4 miliardë denarë, duke qenë 53.5% më të larta se në të njëjtën periudhë të vitit të kaluar.

Dimitrieska-Koçoska stressed that the budget revision ensures the uninterrupted payment of wages, pensions, social benefits and all other state obligations to citizens. She added that, thanks to stable budget revenues and sound public finances, the focus is now shifting to capital investment.

According to the minister, projects currently being implemented in roads, railways, energy, education, healthcare and municipal infrastructure are expected to generate greater economic activity, create new jobs and improve living standards.

During the interview, she explained that the revision represents an adjustment of the budget to new economic circumstances and new statutory obligations. Dimitrieska-Koçoska denied that the move had been prompted by a revenue shortfall or liquidity problems.

The minister explained that the need to revise the budget arose from economic changes recorded during the year. Geopolitical developments, rising energy prices and shifts in international markets have affected some budget projections. Therefore, she said, the Government has a responsibility to adjust these forecasts to the actual situation in a timely manner.

Additional statutory obligations also arose during the same period, mainly as a result of signed collective agreements, while a need also emerged for greater support for agriculture, social protection and municipalities. Dimitrieska-Koçoska emphasized that the main feature of this revision remains its focus on investment, with financial resources allocated to sectors where they can generate the greatest added value for the economy. For this reason, she described it not as a crisis-driven revision, but as a development-oriented one.
