Geron Cecja, 48, who was internationally wanted by Albanian authorities over a murder committed in Tirana in 2006, has been arrested in Athens.

The arrest was carried out by a special Greek police task force after receiving information about his whereabouts.

Cecja was arrested at midday yesterday in the Filothei area of Athens by officers from the Greek Police’s Fugitive Tracking Department.

The 48-year-old, born on November 27, 1978, is accused by Albanian authorities of murdering a fellow Albanian in Tirana in 2006. According to the charges, the victim was shot with a firearm.

An international arrest warrant had been issued for him, and he had been wanted by Albanian authorities for around 20 years.

Following his arrest, Cecja was taken to the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office in Greece.

A decision by the Greek authorities on the procedures for his extradition to Albania is now awaited.

Cecja u arrestua mesditën e djeshme në zonën e Filotheit në Athinë, nga oficerë të Departamentit të Kërkimit të Policisë Greke.

48-vjeçari, i datëlindjes 27 nëntor 1978, akuzohet nga autoritetet shqiptare për vrasjen e një bashkëatdhetari në Tiranë, në vitin 2006. Sipas akuzës, viktima është qëlluar me armë zjarri.

Për të ishte lëshuar një urdhër-arresti ndërkombëtar, ndërsa prej rreth 20 vitesh ai ishte në kërkim nga autoritetet shqiptare.

Pas arrestimit, Cecja është dërguar në Prokurorinë Publike kompetente në Greqi.
