The defense of Rexhep Selimi, represented by attorney Geoffrey Roberts, has reacted to the decision of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, under which Selimi was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Geoffrey Roberts told the media that the defense team was very disappointed with the verdict, but stressed that the decision announced represents only the first instance of the judicial process.

“We are very disappointed with the verdict, but it must be emphasized that this is only the first step, the first battle, in a way. Mr. Selimi intends to fully exercise his rights to appeal this decision through Kosovo’s legal framework, and we are convinced that in the end he will be acquitted of all charges,” Roberts said.

Asked about Selimi’s condition following the verdict, the attorney said he had met with his client and discussed the verdict with him. However, Roberts declined to provide further details.

“I’m sorry, but I will not take questions. I met with Mr. Selimi and we discussed the verdict, but I will not provide any further details,” Roberts said.

Mbrojtja e Rexhep Selimit, e përfaqësuar nga avokati Geoffrey Roberts, ka reaguar pas vendimit të Dhomave të Specializuara në Hagë, përmes të cilit Selimi u dënua me 13 vjet burgim.

Geoffrey Roberts deklaroi për media se ekipi mbrojtës është shumë i zhgënjyer nga aktgjykimi, por nënvizoi se vendimi i shpallur përfaqëson vetëm shkallën e parë të procesit gjyqësor.

“Jemi shumë të zhgënjyer me aktgjykimin, por duhet theksuar se ky është vetëm hapi i parë, beteja e parë, në njëfarë mënyre. Z. Selimi synon t’i përdorë plotësisht të drejtat e tij për ta apeluar këtë vendim përmes kuadrit ligjor të Kosovës dhe ne jemi të bindur se në fund ai do të shpallet i pafajshëm për të gjitha akuzat”, u shpreh Roberts.

I pyetur për gjendjen e Selimit pas vendimit, avokati tha se ishte takuar me klientin e tij dhe kishte biseduar me të rreth aktgjykimit. Megjithatë, Roberts nuk pranoi të jepte hollësi të mëtejshme.

“Më vjen keq, por nuk do të pranoj pyetje. Jam takuar me z. Selimi dhe kemi diskutuar për aktgjykimin, por nuk do të jap më shumë detaje”, tha Roberts.
