Abdixhiku said that once the verification is completed, the LDK will announce the date and venue of the Extraordinary Assembly.

“The date and venue of the Assembly will be made public after the full verification of the signatures. The LDK has been and must continue to be the pillar of its own strength. For this reason, we must not avoid any democratic procedure. We will not deny anyone the right to vote, nor will we hold any position against the will of the majority,” Abdixhiku stated.

Meanwhile, political analyst Faton Mehmeti told “Bota sot” that this is not the right time for the LDK to hold internal elections. He said that the main focus at this stage should be the formation of institutions.

According to Mehmeti, divisions and conflicts within the party could have serious consequences both for the LDK and for political developments in the country.

“I believe that this is not the right time for the LDK to enter into internal elections, because the process of forming institutions lies ahead. A divided LDK could cost the country by leading to new elections. This does not mean that the LDK should be blamed for this situation, but holding elections at this stage, when the party is facing internal divisions and accusations, would severely damage it,” he said.

Mehmeti also warned that launching such a process at this time could have a major impact on the party’s electoral result, even leaving it facing the worst result in its history.

“In fact, I believe that the LDK could record its worst result ever and suffer a genuine political debacle. In this regard, the greatest damage is being caused by interest groups within it, which should first have waited for the institutions to be formed and then demanded accountability or decision-making concerning Mr Abdixhiku. This process should have begun with the party branches and been conducted in a more serious and institutional manner,” he said.

According to the analyst, calls for changes within the LDK may have their reasons, but the timing and manner in which they are being presented are significantly harming the party’s image.

“Even if these individuals have grounds to demand changes due to consecutive electoral defeats, the moment at which they are doing so is, in my opinion, severely damaging the LDK. They risk bearing responsibility for a poor result for the party in the future. Therefore, the biggest blow to the LDK is being dealt by its own people, who are weakening the party through these internal clashes and risk leading it into a very difficult political situation,” Mehmeti concluded to “Bota sot”.

As part of his visit to Kosovo, Terras began his agenda with a meeting with acting president Albulena Haxhiu.

However, the request has still not entered even the first formal step, which is consideration by the Council of the EU and then being sent to the European Commission for an opinion. Kosovo remains the only country in the region without candidate country status.

The statement also said that during the meeting, Haxhiu also addressed the dialogue on normalizing relations with Serbia, as well as the “lack of accountability” for the armed attack in Banjska, Zveçan.

In 2023, a group of armed Serbs attacked the Kosovo Police in Banjska, Zveçan, where a sergeant was killed. Three Serb attackers were also killed in the exchange of fire.

Kosovo considers the attack terrorist and holds Belgrade responsible. Serbia, meanwhile, denies involvement. The visit of the European Parliament’s standing rapporteur for Kosovo comes after, in mid-June, the EP approved its annual resolution on Kosovo.
