Former President Vjosa Osmani published the LDK statement concerning the decision reached in The Hague, stressing that the Kosovo Liberation Army remains the proudest symbol of the modern history of the Albanian people.

Her post said that the KLA would remain so “yesterday, today and forever.”

According to the statement, genocidal Serbia killed more than 13,000 people during the war in Kosovo. Around 10,000 of the victims were civilians massacred, while more than 1,500 people are still forcibly missing and lie buried in mass graves.

The statement also underlined that the sexual violence, inhumane torture, killings of children and other serious crimes committed by Serbia have still not received a response from international justice. At the same time, it said that Serbia continues to deny these crimes and reward their perpetrators.

According to the message, the people of Kosovo rose up to confront these crimes and defend their homes. The KLA is described as the army of the people of Kosovo and as the blood-stained pledge of oppressed people seeking to liberate their homeland.

“Today and forever, we will defend the justice of our liberation war. The independent and sovereign state of Kosovo is our shared legacy,” the statement concludes.

Former President Vjosa Osmani said she hopes that all 18 lawmakers from the Democratic League of Kosovo will vote for Bekim Sejdiu for the post of President.

According to the LDK lawmaker, supporting this candidacy represents a decision in the state’s interest, while she said she wanted to remain optimistic about all of the party’s lawmakers voting in favor.

“We now have a meeting of the Parliamentary Group, and I am very hopeful. This is a decision in the state’s interest, while Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy does honor to Kosovo,” Osmani said, underscoring that the candidate was proposed by the LDK.

Asked about lawmaker Avdullah Hoti’s position, Osmani said Sejdiu’s candidacy is in line with the decisions of the LDK’s structures.

“I believe you can speak with him. I cannot speak on his behalf, but I repeat: the candidacy of Prof. Dr. Bekim Sejdiu does honor to all of Kosovo. It not only meets all the criteria unanimously established at the last meeting of the Parliamentary Group, but also respects the latest decision of the LDK Assembly, which called on the chairman to do everything possible to ensure that Kosovo has functioning institutions. At the same time, this candidacy gives the country the opportunity to continue important work in defense of democracy and the Constitution, and to strengthen alliances,” she said.

Osmani stressed that Sejdiu should receive the votes of all lawmakers.

“As the LDK, we have made a compromise by always placing Kosovo’s interests above any individual or party interest. Now, every lawmaker in the Assembly of Kosovo—not only those from the LDK—has a historic responsibility to ensure that the country has stable institutions,” she said.
