Albin Kurti and Lumir Abdixhiku have confirmed that they discussed specific names for Kosovo’s next president during their meeting, but they have not disclosed who those names are.

According to the two leaders, the names were not made public because of the sensitive nature of the negotiations. Meanwhile, the election of the president has become one of the key issues in the political debate over resolving the institutional deadlock.

Against this backdrop, former US congressman Joseph DioGuardi has called on Kosovo’s political leaders to consider Faton Bislimi for the post of president of the Republic. This follows a similar position expressed by former US ambassador William Walker.

DioGuardi’s proposal comes at a time when Kurti and Abdixhiku have acknowledged that their discussions have moved from defining criteria to considering specific names for head of state.

The support of the two American figures has prompted renewed debate over whether Faton Bislimi could serve as a figure capable of bridging party divisions and whether he could become a meeting point for Kosovo’s political parties.

However, Walker and DioGuardi’s support does not automatically make Bislimi a consensus candidate and does not represent the official position of the US administration.

Walker and DioGuardi do not speak on behalf of the United States administration. But given the strategic importance of Kosovo’s relations with its allies, particularly the United States, a candidate’s strong ties in Washington could influence how his candidacy is viewed.

The question that remains is whether the public support of the two American personalities can become a genuine political opportunity for compromise among Kosovo’s parties.

Gashi: American support strengthens Bislimi’s candidacy, but support within Kosovo is decisive

Diaspora analyst Eduard Gashi told “Bota sot” that the statements by William Walker and Joseph DioGuardi should be analyzed not only in relation to Faton Bislimi’s name, but also in light of the weight carried by the two American figures themselves, who have been associated with the Kosovo issue for decades.

According to Gashi, the fact that both have publicly proposed the same name, precisely when Albin Kurti and Lumir Abdixhiku have begun discussing specific candidates, gives Bislimi’s candidacy greater political weight. He stresses that this does not mean Bislimi has automatically become a consensus candidate, nor that the proposal comes from official Washington.

Gashi believes that Walker and DioGuardi’s credibility in relation to Kosovo means the proposal for Bislimi should not be viewed simply as a name put forward in the public arena.

He lists several elements that, in his view, work in Bislimi’s favor: a strong academic background, parliamentary experience, knowledge of Kosovo’s reality, strong ties with the diaspora and an important network in the United States.

Gashi emphasizes that at a time when relations with allies, especially the United States, are of strategic importance to Kosovo, these ties constitute political capital that should not be underestimated.

However, the analyst points out that support from abroad is not enough to declare a candidate consensual. According to him, the main criterion is whether the candidate can build trust among political parties and citizens within Kosovo.

He argues that the president should be neither the majority’s trophy nor the opposition’s symbolic victory. The candidate should enter the Presidency without being perceived as an instrument of Kurti, Abdixhiku, the PDK or any other party.

Gashi notes that parliamentary arithmetic also demonstrates the need for broader cooperation. LVV and LDK together have a strong basis for an agreement, but the constitutional procedure requires broader political involvement.

For this reason, he believes the candidate should be assessed not only in relation to Albin Kurti and Lumir Abdixhiku, but also against the PDK, AAK and representatives of the communities. Only in this way, he says, can there truly be talk of a consensus president.

Gashi does not limit the debate to Faton Bislimi. He proposes that Dr. Nikë Gjeloshi also be included in the discussions, describing him as a highly serious profile under the current political circumstances.

According to him, Nikë Gjeloshi is a political scientist with decades of experience, knowledge of political systems and Kosovo’s state-building processes, as well as someone who was part of the country’s political history long before the creation of today’s institutions.

Gashi sees Gjeloshi’s understanding of the state, the Constitution, political history and the complicated relationship among institutions as a particular advantage. He adds that Kosovo needs not only a president with international contacts, but also a figure with deep institutional knowledge.

If the criteria are political experience, a background in political science, institutional memory and sufficient distance from the daily clashes among LVV, LDK and PDK, Gashi believes Nikë Gjeloshi should be included on the list of names under consideration.

He describes Gjeloshi as an exceptionally serious choice for president of the Republic, while adding that Walker and DioGuardi’s support has elevated Bislimi’s candidacy to another level. However, he says, this should not close the competition of ideas and personalities, but rather broaden it.

In conclusion, Gashi emphasizes that the choice should be guided by the interests of the Republic, not by party calculations. According to him, Kosovo should choose a figure capable of addressing all parties with the message that he is not the president of a political force, but the president of the Republic.

Hyseni: Bislimi could unite the parties and strengthen the Presidency’s ties with the United States

Analyst Nehat Hyseni considers the process of electing the president a moment of particular political and institutional importance for Kosovo.

For Hyseni, the delay in this process is no longer merely an ordinary disagreement among the parties. It has become a test of institutional culture, the political class’s ability to reach a compromise and its responsibility toward Kosovo’s strategic partners.

Speaking to “Bota sot,” he said the discussion should not focus only on the question of who will be elected president, but also on what kind of president Kosovo needs at this time.

Hyseni stresses that the head of state must be a unifying factor, not a party trophy. According to him, the president cannot be a reward for the winner of the election or an instrument of a political party, but must represent the state, its citizens and the Republic’s strategic interests beyond party differences.

In this context, he considers the proposal of Faton Bislimi important, particularly because of the support expressed by Joseph DioGuardi and former ambassador William G. Walker.

Hyseni believes Bislimi’s candidacy has not been presented merely as the name of a local politician. It has been brought into the public debate by American figures with a long history of involvement in the Albanian cause and Kosovo–US relations.

According to him, the fact that DioGuardi is not the only American voice calling for Bislimi to be considered, since William G. Walker has also spoken in his favor, gives the candidacy a broader dimension as a proposal for consensus and a Euro-Atlantic orientation.

Hyseni says Bislimi’s academic background, political experience and international ties make him different from the traditional model of a Kosovar politician.

He adds that Kosovo needs not only a president who understands domestic politics, but also a figure who understands Washington, Brussels, international diplomacy and how decision-making functions in Western democracies.

The analyst also links this aspect to the importance of US engagement in securing the rights of Albanians in Serbia for the Albanians of the Preševo Valley.

According to Hyseni, Faton Bislimi’s contribution, based on his public engagement, should be seen as part of efforts to keep the issue of the Albanians of the Preševo Valley on the agenda of US institutions.

However, Hyseni also emphasizes that support from outside Kosovo does not by itself make a candidate consensual. For him, the fundamental criterion is the ability to secure votes beyond the political camp where he may initially enjoy support.

He recalls that Joseph DioGuardi, in his letter to Kosovo’s leaders, identified this as a condition: the president must be able to win the trust of more than one political camp and must not become an instrument of either side.

If Bislimi were to secure support from more than one political camp, then his candidacy could, according to Hyseni, become a real opportunity for compromise. But he stresses that Bislimi may be viewed as a potential compromise candidate, not automatically as a consensus candidate, since the final decision rests with the deputies.

Hyseni warns that electing the president solely on the basis of party affiliation—as an LVV, LDK, PDK or other group’s candidate—would begin the presidential mandate with a political deficit.

By contrast, a candidate who could be voted for by more than one political camp would create a different institutional atmosphere.

In closing, Hyseni called on Kurti, Abdixhiku, the PDK and the AAK to use this moment to reach an agreement and not turn the Presidency into a continuation of the electoral conflict.

He emphasizes that the president should be an institution of the Republic, not the property of whichever majority happens to be in power.

Hyseni believes that if Faton Bislimi’s name enters the negotiating table, it should be considered on the basis of merit, integrity, political independence, state experience and the ability to represent Kosovo abroad.

Although Walker and DioGuardi cannot elect Kosovo’s president, he said, they can remind Kosovo’s leaders that the Presidency is not a party trophy, but a high state responsibility, Nehat Hyseni concluded to “Bota sot.”

The three Albanian political parties in the Presheva Valley—the Party for Democratic Action (PVD), the Albanian Democratic Party (PDSH) and the Democratic Party (PD)—have issued a joint statement in support of Faton Bislimi’s candidacy for president of the Republic of Kosovo.

Representatives of the parties say their support stems from their political and national responsibility toward the Albanians of Presheva, Medvegjë and Bujanoc, as well as from the need to strengthen ties between the Republic of Kosovo and the Albanians of the Valley.

According to the statement, Faton Bislimi represents an independent, non-partisan and unifying profile, which is considered particularly suitable for the current political situation in Kosovo. His experience and public positions over the years, the three parties say, demonstrate his ability to cooperate beyond political and party divisions, putting Kosovo’s state interests, its strategic relationship with the United States and the Albanian national interest ahead of party interests.

One of the main reasons cited for this support is Bislimi’s continuous and extraordinary contribution to the cause of the Albanians of the Presheva Valley in the United States of America.

For more than two decades, the statement says, he has used his credibility and the relationships he established in Washington to keep the Valley’s cause in the attention of American policymakers, particularly the United States Congress and Senate.

The three parties stress that this engagement has had a clearly bipartisan character, as it has involved communication and cooperation with representatives of both major parties in the United States. Among the American figures with whom Bislimi has cooperated or through whom he has facilitated communication on the issue of the Valley’s Albanians are Senator Joni Ernst, Senator Gary Peters, and Representatives Jim Himes, Jim McGovern and Keith Self, among others.

Through his activities, Bislimi has helped organize and hold meetings devoted to the Valley’s cause with members of the US Congress and Senate.

His contribution has also included providing briefings at congressional and Senate institutions on the situation and challenges facing Albanians in Presheva, Medvegjë and Bujanoc.

He has conveyed to American decision-makers the demands and concerns of Albanian political representatives from the Valley, and has helped secure letters and public statements from senators and representatives of both American parties in support of the legitimate rights and interests of the Albanians of this region.

The statement also highlights his role in keeping the Valley’s cause as a continuing part of the US policy agenda for the Western Balkans.

PVD, PDSH and PD describe this experience as particularly significant because, in their view, it demonstrates that Bislimi has not regarded the Valley’s cause as a temporary interest or as an element of a narrow party agenda. On the contrary, his engagement is described as long-term, consistent and based on bipartisan foundations, with the aim of securing US support regardless of which party has been in power in Washington.

The parties believe that this experience would serve the Republic of Kosovo if Faton Bislimi were elected president. According to them, the country needs a president capable of communicating with all political forces within Kosovo as well as with both sides of the American political spectrum.

Albin Kurti dhe Lumir Abdixhiku kanë konfirmuar se gjatë takimit të tyre kanë diskutuar për emra konkretë për Presidentin e ardhshëm të Kosovës, por nuk kanë bërë të ditur se cilët janë ata.

Sipas dy liderëve, emrat nuk u bënë publikë për shkak të natyrës së ndjeshme të negociatave. Ndërkohë, zgjedhja e Presidentit është shndërruar në një nga çështjet kryesore të debatit politik për zgjidhjen e ngërçit institucional.

Në këtë klimë, ish-kongresmeni amerikan Joseph DioGuardi u është drejtuar liderëve politikë kosovarë me propozimin që Faton Bislimi të merret në konsideratë për postin e Presidentit të Republikës. Kjo vjen pas një qëndrimi të ngjashëm të ish-ambasadorit amerikan Ëilliam Walker.

Propozimi i DioGuardit është bërë në një moment kur Kurti dhe Abdixhiku kanë pranuar se bisedimet e tyre kanë kaluar nga përcaktimi i kritereve te shqyrtimi i emrave konkretë për kreun e shtetit.

Pyetja që mbetet është nëse mbështetja publike e dy personaliteteve amerikane mund të shndërrohet në një mundësi të vërtetë politike për kompromis ndërmjet partive të Kosovës.

Analisti nga diaspora, Eduard Gashi, ka thënë për “Bota sot” se deklaratat e Ëilliam Walkerit dhe Joseph DioGuardit duhet të analizohen jo vetëm në raport me emrin e Faton Bislimit, por edhe me peshën që mbajnë vetë këto dy figura amerikane, të cilat prej dekadash janë lidhur me çështjen e Kosovës.

Sipas Gashit, fakti që të dy kanë propozuar publikisht të njëjtin emër, pikërisht kur Albin Kurti dhe Lumir Abdixhiku kanë nisur të diskutojnë kandidatë konkretë, i jep kandidaturës së Bislimit një peshë më të madhe politike. Ai thekson se kjo nuk nënkupton se Bislimi është bërë automatikisht kandidat konsensual dhe as se propozimi vjen nga Uashingtoni zyrtar.

Gashi vlerëson se kredibiliteti i Walkerit dhe DioGuardit në raport me Kosovën bën që propozimi për Bislimin të mos shihet thjesht si një emër i hedhur në opinionin publik.

Ai rendit disa elemente që, sipas tij, e favorizojnë Bislimin: formimin e fuqishëm akademik, përvojën parlamentare, njohjen e realitetit kosovar, lidhjet e forta me diasporën dhe rrjetin e rëndësishëm në Shtetet e Bashkuara.

Gashi thekson se, në një periudhë kur raportet me aleatët, sidomos me SHBA-në, janë me rëndësi strategjike për Kosovën, këto lidhje përbëjnë një kapital politik që nuk duhet nënvlerësuar.

Megjithatë, analisti nënvizon se një mbështetje e ardhur nga jashtë nuk mjafton për ta shpallur një kandidat konsensual. Sipas tij, kriteri kryesor është nëse kandidati mund të krijojë besim te partitë politike dhe qytetarët brenda Kosovës.

Ai argumenton se Presidenti nuk duhet të jetë as trofe i shumicës dhe as fitore simbolike e opozitës. Kandidati duhet të hyjë në Presidencë pa u perceptuar si instrument i Kurtit, Abdixhikut, PDK-së apo i ndonjë partie tjetër.

Gashi kujton se edhe matematika parlamentare e tregon nevojën për një bashkëpunim më të gjerë. LVV dhe LDK së bashku kanë bazë të fortë për një marrëveshje, por procedura kushtetuese kërkon përfshirje më të gjerë politike.

Për këtë arsye, ai mendon se kandidati duhet të vlerësohet jo vetëm në raport me Albin Kurtin dhe Lumir Abdixhikun, por edhe përballë PDK-së, AAK-së dhe përfaqësuesve të komuniteteve. Vetëm në këtë mënyrë, sipas tij, mund të flitet realisht për një President konsensual.

Gashi nuk e kufizon debatin vetëm te Faton Bislimi. Ai propozon që në diskutime të përfshihet edhe Dr. Nikë Gjeloshi, të cilin e konsideron një profil shumë serioz për rrethanat aktuale politike.

Sipas tij, Nikë Gjeloshi është politolog me përvojë shumëdekadëshe, njohës i sistemeve politike dhe i proceseve shtetformuese të Kosovës, si dhe një person që ka qenë pjesë e historisë politike të vendit shumë përpara krijimit të institucioneve të sotme.

Gashi e sheh si avantazh të veçantë faktin që Gjeloshi do ta kuptonte shtetin, Kushtetutën, historinë politike dhe raportin e ndërlikuar mes institucioneve. Ai shton se Kosovës nuk i duhet vetëm një President me kontakte ndërkombëtare, por edhe një figurë me njohuri të thella institucionale.

Nëse kriteret janë përvoja politike, formimi politologjik, memoria institucionale dhe një distancë e mjaftueshme nga përplasja e përditshme mes LVV-së, LDK-së dhe PDK-së, Gashi mendon se Nikë Gjeloshi duhet të jetë pjesë e listës së emrave që shqyrtohen.

Ai e cilëson Gjeloshin një zgjedhje jashtëzakonisht serioze për President të Republikës, ndërsa shton se mbështetja e Walkerit dhe DioGuardit e ka ngritur kandidaturën e Bislimit në një nivel tjetër. Megjithatë, kjo, sipas tij, nuk duhet ta mbyllë garën e ideve dhe të personaliteteve, por ta zgjerojë atë.

Në përfundim, Gashi thekson se zgjedhja duhet të udhëhiqet nga interesi i Republikës dhe jo nga kalkulimet partiake. Sipas tij, Kosova duhet të zgjedhë një figurë që mund t’u drejtohet të gjitha partive me mesazhin se nuk është presidenti i një force politike, por Presidenti i Republikës.

Hyseni: Bislimi mund të bashkojë partitë dhe ta forcojë lidhjen e Presidencës me SHBA-në

Analisti Nehat Hyseni e konsideron procesin e zgjedhjes së Presidentit një moment me rëndësi të veçantë politike dhe institucionale për Kosovën.

Për Hysenin, zvarritja e këtij procesi nuk është më vetëm një mosmarrëveshje e zakonshme ndërmjet partive. Ajo është shndërruar në një provë për kulturën institucionale, aftësinë e klasës politike për të arritur kompromis dhe përgjegjësinë e saj ndaj partnerëve strategjikë të Kosovës.

Në një prononcim për “Bota sot”, ai thotë se diskutimi nuk duhet të përqendrohet vetëm te pyetja se kush do të zgjidhet President, por edhe te lloji i Presidentit që i nevojitet Kosovës në këtë periudhë.

Hyseni thekson se kreu i shtetit duhet të jetë faktor bashkues dhe jo një trofe partiak. Sipas tij, Presidenti nuk mund të jetë shpërblim për fituesin e zgjedhjeve apo instrument i një partie politike, por duhet të përfaqësojë shtetin, qytetarët dhe interesat strategjike të Republikës përtej dallimeve partiake.

Në këtë kuadër, ai e sheh si të rëndësishëm propozimin për Faton Bislimin, veçanërisht për shkak të përkrahjes nga Joseph DioGuardi dhe ish-ambasadori Ëilliam G. Walker.

Hyseni vlerëson se kandidatura e Bislimit nuk është paraqitur vetëm si një emër politik vendor. Ajo është sjellë në debatin publik nga figura amerikane me histori të gjatë angazhimi në çështjen shqiptare dhe në marrëdhëniet Kosovë–SHBA.

Sipas tij, fakti që DioGuardi nuk është i vetmi zë amerikan që ka kërkuar shqyrtimin e Bislimit, pasi edhe Ëilliam G. Walker është shprehur në favor të tij, i jep kandidaturës një dimension më të gjerë si propozim për konsensus dhe orientim euroatlantik.

Hyseni thotë se formimi akademik, përvoja politike dhe lidhjet ndërkombëtare e bëjnë Bislimin një profil të ndryshëm nga modeli tradicional i politikanit kosovar.

Ai shton se Kosovës nuk i duhet vetëm një President që njeh politikën e brendshme, por edhe një figurë që kupton Ëashingtonin, Brukselin, diplomacinë ndërkombëtare dhe mënyrën e funksionimit të vendimmarrjes në demokracitë perëndimore.

Analisti e lidh këtë aspekt edhe me rëndësinë që ka për shqiptarët e Luginës së Preshevës angazhimi amerikan për të drejtat e shqiptarëve në Serbi.

Sipas Hysenit, kontributi i Faton Bislimit, bazuar në angazhimin e tij publik, duhet parë si pjesë e përpjekjeve për ta mbajtur çështjen e shqiptarëve të Luginës së Preshevës në vëmendjen e institucioneve amerikane.

Megjithatë, edhe Hyseni nënvizon se mbështetja e ardhur nga jashtë Kosovës nuk e bën vetvetiu një kandidat konsensual. Për të, kriteri themelor është aftësia për të siguruar vota përtej kampit politik ku mund të ketë mbështetje fillestare.

Ai kujton se edhe Joseph DioGuardi, në letrën e tij drejtuar liderëve të Kosovës, e ka përcaktuar këtë si kusht: Presidenti duhet të jetë në gjendje të fitojë besimin e më shumë se një kampi politik dhe të mos shndërrohet në instrument të asnjërës palë.

Nëse Bislimi do të arrinte të mbështetej nga më shumë se një kamp politik, atëherë kandidatura e tij, sipas Hysenit, mund të merrte trajtën e një mundësie reale kompromisi. Por ai thekson se Bislimi mund të shihet si kandidat potencial i kompromisit, jo automatikisht si kandidat konsensual, pasi vendimi përfundimtar u takon deputetëve.

Hyseni paralajmëron se zgjedhja e Presidentit vetëm mbi bazën e përkatësisë partiake, si kandidat i LVV-së, LDK-së, PDK-së apo i një grupi tjetër, do ta niste mandatin e Presidencës me deficit politik.

Në të kundërt, një kandidat i votueshëm nga më shumë se një kamp politik do të krijonte një atmosferë tjetër institucionale.

Në përmbyllje, Hyseni u bën thirrje Kurtit, Abdixhikut, PDK-së dhe AAK-së që ta përdorin këtë moment për të arritur marrëveshje dhe të mos e shndërrojnë Presidencën në vazhdim të konfliktit elektoral.

Ai nënvizon se Presidenti duhet të jetë institucion i Republikës dhe jo pronë e shumicës së radhës.

Hyseni vlerëson se, nëse emri i Faton Bislimit futet në tryezën e negociatave, ai duhet të shqyrtohet mbi bazën e meritës, integritetit, pavarësisë politike, përvojës shtetërore dhe aftësisë për ta përfaqësuar Kosovën jashtë vendit.

Edhe pse Walker dhe DioGuardi nuk mund ta zgjedhin Presidentin e Kosovës, sipas tij, ata mund t’ua rikujtojnë liderëve kosovarë se Presidenca nuk është trofe partiak, por përgjegjësi e lartë shtetërore, përfundoi Nehat Hyseni për “Bota sot”.

Tri subjektet politike shqiptare në Luginën e Preshevës, Partia për Veprim Demokratik (PVD), Partia Demokratike Shqiptare (PDSH) dhe Partia Demokratike (PD), kanë publikuar një deklaratë të përbashkët në mbështetje të kandidaturës së Faton Bislimit për president të Republikës së Kosovës.

Përfaqësuesit e këtyre partive thonë se përkrahja e tyre buron nga përgjegjësia politike dhe kombëtare ndaj shqiptarëve të Preshevës, Medvegjës dhe Bujanocit, si dhe nga domosdoshmëria për të forcuar lidhjet mes Republikës së Kosovës dhe shqiptarëve të Luginës.

Sipas deklaratës, Faton Bislimi përfaqëson një profil të pavarur, mbipartiak dhe bashkues, i cili vlerësohet si veçanërisht i përshtatshëm për situatën e tanishme politike në Kosovë. Përvoja dhe qëndrimet e tij publike ndër vite, sipas tri partive, tregojnë aftësinë për të bashkëpunuar përtej ndarjeve politike e partiake, duke vendosur përpara interesave të partive interesin shtetëror të Kosovës, raportin strategjik me Shtetet e Bashkuara dhe interesin kombëtar shqiptar.

Si një nga motivet kryesore të kësaj mbështetjeje përmendet kontributi i vazhdueshëm dhe i jashtëzakonshëm i Bislimit për çështjen e shqiptarëve të Luginës së Preshevës në Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës.

Për më shumë se dy dekada, thuhet në deklaratë, ai ka shfrytëzuar kredibilitetin dhe marrëdhëniet e krijuara në Washington për ta mbajtur çështjen e Luginës në vëmendjen e politikëbërësve amerikanë, veçanërisht të Kongresit dhe Senatit të Shteteve të Bashkuara.

Tri partitë theksojnë se ky angazhim ka pasur karakter të qartë bipartisan, pasi ka përfshirë komunikim dhe bashkëpunim me përfaqësues të të dyja partive kryesore në SHBA. Mes personaliteteve amerikane me të cilët Bislimi ka bashkëpunuar ose ka ndërmjetësuar komunikime për çështjen e shqiptarëve të Luginës renditen Senatorja Joni Ernst, Senatori Gary Peters dhe kongresistët Jim Himes, Jim McGovern e Keith Self, ndër të tjerë.

Nëpërmjet veprimtarisë së tij, Bislimi ka ndihmuar në organizimin dhe realizimin e takimeve kushtuar çështjes së Luginës me anëtarë të Kongresit dhe Senatit të SHBA-së.

Kontributi i tij ka përfshirë gjithashtu ofrimin e brifingut në institucionet e Kongresit dhe Senatit lidhur me situatën dhe sfidat me të cilat përballen shqiptarët në Preshevë, Medvegjë dhe Bujanoc.

Ai ka përcjellë te vendimmarrësit amerikanë kërkesat dhe shqetësimet e përfaqësuesve politikë shqiptarë nga Lugina, si dhe ka ndihmuar në sigurimin e letrave dhe deklarimeve publike nga senatorë e kongresistë të të dyja partive amerikane në përkrahje të të drejtave dhe interesave legjitime të shqiptarëve të kësaj treve.

Në deklaratë nënvizohet edhe roli i tij në ruajtjen e çështjes së Luginës si pjesë e vazhdueshme e agjendës së politikës amerikane për Ballkanin Perëndimor.

PVD, PDSH dhe PD e cilësojnë këtë përvojë si veçanërisht domethënëse, sepse, sipas tyre, dëshmon se Bislimi nuk e ka parë çështjen e Luginës si interes të përkohshëm apo si element të një agjende të ngushtë partiake. Përkundrazi, angazhimi i tij përshkruhet si afatgjatë, i qëndrueshëm dhe i mbështetur në baza bipartizane, me synimin për të siguruar përkrahjen e Shteteve të Bashkuara pavarësisht partisë që ka qenë në pushtet në Washington.

Partitë vlerësojnë se kjo përvojë do të ishte në shërbim të Republikës së Kosovës nëse Faton Bislimi do të zgjidhej president. Sipas tyre, vendit i nevojitet një president i aftë të komunikojë si me të gjitha forcat politike brenda Kosovës, ashtu edhe me të dyja krahët e politikës amerikane.

Ato e shohin gjithashtu si të rëndësishme që një personalitet me një histori të tillë angazhimi për shqiptarët e Luginës të ketë mundësinë ta përfaqësojë Republikën e Kosovës në nivelin më të lartë institucional.

Për këto arsye, Partia për Veprim Demokratik (PVD), Partia Demokratike Shqiptare (PDSH) dhe Partia Demokratike (PD) shprehin mbështetjen për kandidaturën e Faton Bislimit për president të Republikës së Kosovës, duke e vlerësuar atë si kandidat serioz për një zgjidhje konsensuale, mbipartiake dhe unifikuese, në interes të Republikës së Kosovës dhe të kombit shqiptar.

Former Republican U.S. Congressman Joseph DioGuardi has sent a letter to Kosovo’s political leaders, calling for agreement on the election of a new president. He warns that Kosovo cannot withstand another round of institutional blockades and repeated elections.

In his letter to the political parties, DioGuardi proposed Faton Bislimi for president of Kosovo, urging leaders to assess his candidacy on its merits rather than on the basis of party or personal preferences.

Appeal for Consensus and Proposal of a Candidate for President

I am writing to you guided by a deep sense of responsibility and love for a country whose struggle for freedom has been among the causes that have defined my life.

For more than three decades, I have stood alongside the people of Kosovo. I remember Kosovo in the 1990s, with its oppression, suffering and the extraordinary courage of a people who refused to give up on the dream of freedom. I also remember postwar Kosovo, which placed great hope and trust in the United States and the democratic world.

This past brings responsibility. Today, Kosovo once again stands at an important crossroads. Political disagreements are part of democracy, but institutional deadlock affects far more than the parties: it affects families, young people, businesses, international partners and every citizen who wants Kosovo to progress. The country cannot withstand another cycle in which political deadlock produces elections, elections create a new deadlock and everything begins again.

The citizens of Kosovo deserve more. They deserve functioning institutions, leaders willing to put the interests of the Republic ahead of party priorities, and a president who unites the country rather than widening its divisions.

During my visit here, I learned that Kosovo’s political leaders have discussed the qualities and criteria that a consensus candidate for president should meet. In my assessment, Kosovo needs a person who can win the trust of more than one political camp; who can cooperate with both the government and the opposition without becoming a tool of either side; who represents all the citizens and communities of Kosovo; and who represents the Republic with dignity and credibility in Washington, Brussels and other international capitals.

In this spirit, I respectfully ask you to consider Faton Bislimi.

I have known Faton for more than two decades and have closely followed his commitment to Kosovo, as well as his path as a public servant. His story is closely linked to Kosovo’s own history. Affected by war and displacement, he was educated in North America, including graduating from Harvard, gained first-hand knowledge of American democratic institutions and served as a member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. He has continued working in political, academic, civic and international fields to strengthen Kosovo and its relationship with the United States. Through this commitment, he has earned the respect of many people, not only in the Albanian world but also in the United States and beyond.

However, a president must represent more than a professional career. He must have character, independence and sound judgment. The presidency must serve the Republic, not a party. The president must know how to listen without abandoning principles, disagree without creating enemies, and represent citizens whose political choices differ from his own. I believe Faton possesses these qualities.

I also believe that his ability to build bridges is precisely what Kosovo needs today: bridges between generations, between Kosovo and its diaspora, between Pristina and Washington, and between the political forces that are currently divided. Faton has demonstrated this for many years, even when he has not held an official position. Appointing Faton to the presidency would not be an honor for him, but would enable the presidency to serve the people of Kosovo in the best way possible. Failing to seize such an opportunity would mean failing to uphold the promise made by every elected representative: to serve the country’s best interests.

For this reason, I ask only that, as political leaders move from discussing criteria to considering names, Faton Bislimi’s name be put forward for discussion and assessed on its merits, not according to anyone’s political or personal preferences.

Kosovo does not need another president who emerges as a trophy at the end of a political contest. It needs a president who can become a symbol of bringing that contest to a close.

The people of Kosovo have already demonstrated their courage, resilience and faith in democracy. Now political leaders have the opportunity to demonstrate something equally important: the courage to compromise in the interests of the Republic.

I believe Kosovo is at precisely such a moment. Therefore, I respectfully invite you to consider Faton Bislimi not as the candidate of a party or political camp, but as a Kosovar with the experience, character, international outlook and independence necessary to serve as president of the Republic of Kosovo at a time when the country most needs consensus. Taking into account his education, experience, political acumen and commitment to the country above all else, I cannot think of anyone else better prepared to serve Kosovo as president.

The final decision will be yours, but I believe Faton Bislimi is the right choice. History will judge this generation of leaders not only by the name they choose, but also by their ability to find common ground when Kosovo needs it most. This would give the country a president for everyone, capable of serving with ethics, integrity and dignity, and ready to move the country forward from the first day of his term.

The same letter was sent to the four largest parties: LVV, PDK, LDK and the Alliance.

Ish-kongresmeni republikan amerikan Joseph DioGuardi u ka dërguar një letër drejtuesve politikë të Kosovës, përmes së cilës kërkon pajtim për zgjedhjen e presidentit të ri. Ai paralajmëron se Kosova nuk e përballon dot një raund tjetër bllokadash institucionale dhe zgjedhjesh të përsëritura.

Në letrën e tij drejtuar partive politike, DioGuardi ka propozuar Faton Bislimin për president të Kosovës, duke u bërë thirrje liderëve që kandidaturën e tij ta vlerësojnë sipas meritave, e jo mbi preferenca partiake apo personale.

Apel për Konsensus dhe Propozim i një Kandidati për President

Po ju shkruaj i udhëhequr nga përgjegjësia e thellë dhe dashuria për një vend, lufta e të cilit për liri ka qenë ndër kauzat që kanë përcaktuar jetën time.

Për më shumë se tri dekada kam qenë pranë popullit të Kosovës. Më kujtohet Kosova e viteve 1990, me shtypjen, vuajtjet dhe kurajën e jashtëzakonshme të një populli që nuk pranoi të heqë dorë nga ëndrra e lirisë. Më kujtohet gjithashtu Kosova e pasluftës, e cila vendosi shpresë dhe besim të madh te Shtetet e Bashkuara dhe bota demokratike.

Kjo e kaluar sjell përgjegjësi. Kosova sot është sërish para një udhëkryqi të rëndësishëm. Mospajtimet politike janë pjesë e demokracisë, por bllokimi institucional ndikon shumë përtej partive: ai prek familjet, të rinjtë, bizneset, partnerët ndërkombëtarë dhe çdo qytetar që dëshiron përparimin e Kosovës. Vendi nuk mund të përballojë një cikël tjetër ku ngërçi politik prodhon zgjedhje, zgjedhjet krijojnë një ngërç të ri dhe gjithçka nis përsëri.

Qytetarët e Kosovës meritojnë më shumë. Ata meritojnë institucione që funksionojnë, udhëheqës të gatshëm ta vendosin interesin e Republikës përpara prioriteteve partiake dhe një President që e bashkon vendin, jo që i zgjeron ndarjet.

Gjatë vizitës sime këtu, kam kuptuar se liderët politikë të Kosovës kanë biseduar për cilësitë dhe kriteret që duhet të plotësojë një kandidat konsensual për President. Sipas vlerësimit tim, Kosovës i nevojitet një person që mund të fitojë besimin e më shumë se një kampi politik; që mund të bashkëpunojë me pushtetin dhe opozitën pa u kthyer në mjet të asnjërës palë; që përfaqëson të gjithë qytetarët dhe komunitetet e Kosovës; si dhe që e përfaqëson Republikën me dinjitet dhe kredibilitet në Uashington, Bruksel dhe kryeqytete të tjera ndërkombëtare.

Në këtë frymë, ju kërkoj me respekt që ta konsideroni Faton Bislimin.

Fatonin e njoh prej më shumë se dy dekadash dhe e kam ndjekur nga afër angazhimin e tij për Kosovën, si edhe rrugëtimin e tij si shërbyes publik. Rrëfimi i tij është ngushtë i lidhur me vetë historinë e Kosovës. I prekur nga lufta dhe zhvendosja, ai u arsimua në Amerikën e Veriut, përfshirë diplomimin në Harvard, fitoi njohuri të drejtpërdrejta për institucionet demokratike amerikane dhe shërbeu si deputet i Republikës së Kosovës. Ai ka vijuar punën në fusha politike, akademike, qytetare dhe ndërkombëtare për forcimin e Kosovës dhe të raportit të saj me Shtetet e Bashkuara. Për këtë angazhim, ai ka fituar respekt nga shumë njerëz, jo vetëm në botën shqiptare, por edhe në Shtetet e Bashkuara dhe më gjerë.

Megjithatë, një President duhet të përfaqësojë më shumë sesa një karrierë profesionale. Ai duhet të ketë karakter, pavarësi dhe gjykim të drejtë. Presidenca duhet t’i shërbejë Republikës dhe jo një partie. Presidenti duhet të dijë të dëgjojë pa braktisur parimet, të mos pajtohet pa krijuar armiq dhe të përfaqësojë qytetarë me zgjedhje politike të ndryshme nga të tijat. Unë besoj se Fatoni i ka këto cilësi.

Besoj gjithashtu se aftësia e tij për të ndërtuar ura është pikërisht ajo për të cilën Kosova ka nevojë sot: ura mes gjeneratave, mes Kosovës dhe diasporës së saj, mes Prishtinës dhe Uashingtonit, si dhe mes forcave politike që aktualisht janë të ndara. Fatoni e ka dëshmuar këtë prej shumë vitesh, edhe kur nuk ka ushtruar ndonjë funksion zyrtar. Vendosja e Fatonit në postin e Presidentit nuk do të ishte nderim për të, por do t’i mundësonte Presidencës t’i shërbejë popullit të Kosovës në mënyrën më të mirë të mundshme. Mosshfrytëzimi i një mundësie të tillë do të nënkuptonte mosmbajtjen e premtimit që çdo përfaqësues i zgjedhur ka dhënë: t’i shërbejë interesit më të mirë të vendit.

Për këtë arsye, kërkoj vetëm që, teksa liderët politikë kalojnë nga biseda për kriteret në shqyrtimin e emrave, emri i Faton Bislimit të shtrohet për diskutim dhe të vlerësohet për meritat e tij, jo sipas preferencave politike apo personale të kujtdo.

Kosova nuk ka nevojë për një President tjetër që del si trofe në fund të një gare politike. Ajo ka nevojë për një President që mund të shndërrohet në simbol të mbylljes së asaj gare.

Populli i Kosovës e ka dëshmuar tashmë guximin, qëndrueshmërinë dhe besimin e tij në demokraci. Tani udhëheqësit politikë kanë rastin të tregojnë diçka po aq të rëndësishme: guximin për kompromis në interes të Republikës.

Besoj se Kosova është pikërisht në një çast të tillë. Prandaj ju ftoj me respekt ta konsideroni Faton Bislimin jo si kandidat të një partie apo një kampi politik, por si një kosovar që ka përvojën, karakterin, botëkuptimin ndërkombëtar dhe pavarësinë e nevojshme për të shërbyer si President i Republikës së Kosovës në kohën kur vendi ka më së shumti nevojë për konsensus. Duke marrë parasysh arsimimin, përvojën, mprehtësinë politike dhe përkushtimin e tij për vendin mbi çdo gjë tjetër, nuk më vjen ndër mend askush tjetër më i përgatitur për t’i shërbyer Kosovës si President.

Vendimi përfundimtar do të jetë i juaji, por unë besoj se Faton Bislimi është zgjedhja e duhur. Historia do ta vlerësojë këtë brez liderësh jo vetëm nga emri që do të zgjedhin, por edhe nga aftësia e tyre për të gjetur gjuhë të përbashkët kur Kosova ka më së shumti nevojë. Kjo do t’i jepte vendit një President për të gjithë, të aftë të shërbejë me etikë, integritet dhe dinjitet, si edhe të gatshëm ta çojë vendin përpara që në ditën e parë të mandatit.

E njëjta letër u është dërguar katër partive më të mëdha: LVV, PDK, LDK dhe Aleancës.

Former U.S. Ambassador William G. Walker has sent letters to Albin Kurti, Lumir Abdixhiku, Bedri Hamza and Ardian Gjini, proposing that Faton “Tony” Bislimi become the candidate for Kosovo’s next president.

In the letters addressed to the four political leaders, obtained by Kanal10, Walker raises concerns about the deadlock in the constitutional process for electing a new president. According to him, Kosovo needs a figure with exceptional qualities, experience on the international stage and dedication to the country.

Walker says he has heard several names mentioned as potential candidates for the position. However, he believes Bislimi has the experience, skills and personality necessary to serve as president.

“In my opinion, of all the potential names, Tony has all the necessary skills and the personality to be a successful president,” Walker writes.

In support of his proposal, the former ambassador lists six qualities that make Bislimi suitable for the position: knowledge of the world outside Kosovo, academic preparation, command of languages, in-depth knowledge of Kosovo’s history and political developments, personality, and the possibility of being accepted as a consensus candidate.

Walker particularly emphasizes that Kosovo needs a president who represents the entire country, rather than just one party or a specific political orientation.

Faton Bislimi, an advocate for Kosovo’s cause in the United States, announced today that he warmly welcomes the introduction of Congressional Resolution 1451 in the US Congress. The initiative was launched by Congressman Joe Wilson, whom he described as a great friend of Kosovo, and is backed by around 40 bipartisan co-sponsors. It calls for the 2027 Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to be held in Charleston, South Carolina, instead of Belgrade.

Bislimi said that for more than 20 years, it has been consistently argued in Washington that stability in the Balkans cannot be achieved by favoring policies that often clash with the West’s strategic interests. In his assessment, Serbia continues to serve as an important instrument of Russian influence in Europe, while in recent years it has also strengthened its ties with China and Iran.

In this context, he stressed that Euro-Atlantic institutions must send clear signals in defense of democratic principles and collective security. According to Bislimi, these are precisely the arguments Congressional Resolution 1451 sets out against the possibility of Serbia hosting the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s next Annual Session in 2027.

He recalled that the OSCE is founded on the principles of freedom, democracy, the rule of law and respect for the sovereignty of states, and therefore the country where its representatives meet should embody these values.

Bislimi thanked Congressman Joe Wilson and all the Republican and Democratic co-sponsors for what he described as principled leadership. He emphasized that the United States’ friendship with Kosovo remains the strongest guarantee of peace, stability and the region’s Euro-Atlantic future.

In his response, Bislimi added that sustained work, serious commitment and the values of freedom and democracy have always served, and continue to serve, as his strategic guide for the country and the nation. According to him, when this commitment produces results, the sense of pride is multiplied.

Nisma është ndërmarrë nga kongresmeni Joe Wilson, të cilin ai e cilësoi mik të madh të Kosovës, dhe mbështetet nga rreth 40 bashkënënshkrues nga të dyja partitë. Përmes saj kërkohet që Sesioni Vjetor i Asamblesë Parlamentare të OSBE-së më 2027 të organizohet në Charleston, South Carolina, në vend të Beogradit.

Sipas Bislimit, këto janë pikërisht argumentet që Rezoluta Kongresionale 1451 paraqet kundër mundësisë që Serbia të jetë vendi pritës i sesionit të ardhshëm vjetor të Asamblesë Parlamentare të OSBE-së në vitin 2027.

Ai rikujtoi se OSBE-ja mbështetet në parimet e lirisë, demokracisë, sundimit të ligjit dhe respektimit të sovranitetit të shteteve, ndaj edhe vendi ku takohen përfaqësuesit e saj duhet t’i mishërojë këto vlera.

Bislimi falënderoi kongresmenin Joe Wilson dhe të gjithë bashkënënshkruesit republikanë e demokratë për atë që e përshkroi si udhëheqje parimore. Ai nënvizoi se miqësia e Shteteve të Bashkuara me Kosovën mbetet garancia më e fuqishme për paqen, stabilitetin dhe perspektivën euroatlantike të rajonit.

Në reagimin e tij, Bislimi shtoi se puna e vazhdueshme, përkushtimi serioz, si dhe vlerat e lirisë dhe demokracisë, kanë shërbyer gjithmonë dhe vazhdojnë të jenë orientimi i tij strategjik për vendin dhe kombin. Sipas tij, kur ky angazhim prodhon rezultate, ndjenja e krenarisë shumëfishohet.
