Eight patients with confirmed neuroinvasive West Nile fever are being treated at the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje. Two of them are in serious condition and have been admitted to the intensive care unit.

Fadil Cana, the clinic’s director, said today that no new patient with a confirmed diagnosis of West Nile fever had been admitted over the past four days.

Cana stressed that the Infectious Diseases Clinic had not received any new confirmed cases of the disease for four days.

The two patients in serious condition have been intubated and are receiving mechanical ventilation, while the other six are being treated in the clinic’s wards.

Most of the hospitalized patients are from Skopje, while one is from Sveti Nikole. Nearly all the patients are over 60.

Speaking about the fatalities, Cana confirmed that the eighth death from West Nile fever was recorded over the weekend. The patient was a 70-year-old man who had been admitted to the clinic on August 25 in extremely serious condition.

Immediately after admission, he was transferred to intensive care, where he was intubated and placed on mechanical ventilation. However, despite treatment and the efforts of the medical team, the patient died after spending 10 days in the hospital.

Fadil Cana, drejtor i Klinikës, bëri të ditur sot se gjatë katër ditëve të fundit nuk është paraqitur asnjë pacient i ri me diagnozë të konfirmuar të etheve të Nilit Perëndimor.

Cana theksoi se Klinika për Sëmundje Infektive ka katër ditë që nuk ka pranuar raste të reja të konfirmuara me këtë sëmundje.

Dy pacientët në gjendje të rëndë janë intubuar dhe po mbahen në ventilim mekanik, kurse gjashtë të tjerët marrin trajtim në repartet e Klinikës.

Pjesa më e madhe e personave të hospitalizuar vijnë nga Shkupi, ndërsa njëri është nga Sveti Nikolla. Thuajse të gjithë pacientët janë mbi 60 vjeç.

Duke folur për viktimat, Cana konfirmoi se gjatë fundjavës është shënuar vdekja e tetë nga ethet e Nilit Perëndimor. Bëhet fjalë për një pacient 70-vjeçar, i cili ishte pranuar në Klinikë më 25 gusht në gjendje jashtëzakonisht të rëndë.

Menjëherë pas pranimit, ai u transferua në kujdes intensiv, ku u intubua dhe u vendos në ventilim mekanik. Megjithatë, pavarësisht mjekimit dhe angazhimit të ekipit mjekësor, pacienti ndërroi jetë pas dhjetë ditësh qëndrimi.

Another patient affected by West Nile fever has died at the Infectious Diseases Clinic, bringing the number of fatal cases to six.

The clinic’s director, Adil Cana, said the victim was a 72-year-old patient who had been hospitalized 15 days earlier in an exceptionally serious general condition and with an extremely severe clinical picture.

According to Cana, the patient died yesterday afternoon despite the intensive measures taken during his treatment in the intensive care unit.

So far, a total of 57 patients have been admitted to the Infectious Diseases Clinic.

Of these, 27 have recovered, while 18 others continue to receive treatment. Cana said that laboratory tests have confirmed the virus in 15 of the patients currently hospitalized, all of whom have the neuroinvasive form.

Një tjetër pacient i prekur nga ethet e Nilit Perëndimor ka humbur jetën në Klinikën e Sëmundjeve Infektive, duke e çuar në gjashtë numrin e rasteve me përfundim fatal.

Drejtori i Klinikës, Adil Cana, bëri të ditur se viktima ishte një pacient 72-vjeçar, i cili ishte hospitalizuar 15 ditë më parë me gjendje të përgjithshme dhe tablo klinike jashtëzakonisht të rëndë.

Sipas Canës, pacienti ndërroi jetë dje pasdite, pavarësisht masave intensive të ndërmarra gjatë trajtimit të tij në njësinë e kujdesit intensiv.

Deri tani, në Klinikën e Sëmundjeve Infektive janë shtruar gjithsej 57 pacientë.

Kur u pranua, pacienti ndodhej në gjendje jashtëzakonisht të rëndë, me pasqyrë të rënduar klinike dhe disa sëmundje shoqëruese. Ai u trajtua në Njësinë e Kujdesit Intensiv dhe mori mbështetje respiratore, por trajtimi nuk arriti ta përmirësonte gjendjen e tij.

Ndërkohë, në Klinikën për Sëmundje Infektive po trajtohen 21 pacientë. Infeksioni me formën neuroinvazive të virusit të Etheve të Nilit Perëndimor është konfirmuar te 18 prej tyre, ndërsa tre raste të tjera konsiderohen të dyshuara.

The Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje has recorded no evidence of people experiencing gastrointestinal problems as a result of drinking tap water in the capital. The clinic’s director, Dr. Fadil Cana, said this today in response to journalists’ questions regarding claims published on social media that water in Skopje had caused health problems in several patients.

Cana explained that, in his capacity as head of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases, he could confirm that the institution had no data on any patients with water-related gastrointestinal problems. According to him, such a case would have to be recorded in accordance with diagnostic procedures.

He said that a normal increase in the number of patients has currently been observed, linked to the high temperatures.
