The Federal Supreme Court of Brazil has unanimously approved Albania’s request for the extradition of Ervin Mata. The decision was taken by the court’s first panel, in a virtual session held from August 14 to 21, 2026.

In the 23-page ruling, the Brazilian court determines that the documentation submitted by Albanian authorities meets the legal conditions for extradition.

The request relates to criminal proceedings in Albania for charges including trafficking in narcotic substances, complicity in a special form, and participating in a structured criminal group.

The case file also includes data obtained from communications on the encrypted Sky ECC application. According to the material presented before the Brazilian court, in September 2020, the user with the identifier GS4TDD, identified as Ervin Luan Mata, is suspected of communicating about the transport of a quantity of approximately 250 kilograms of cocaine from Brazil to Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

In a communication from September 29, 2020, the file mentions that Mata was talking about the seizure of 240 units of goods in Frankfurt.

In another conversation, he states that “all my goods were seized in Frankfurt, at customs,” while the sending of money through other persons is also mentioned.

The Brazilian document also includes communications related to Albania and the Netherlands. In one of them, Mata says: “I only want money in Albania,” while in another he mentions the sum of one million in the Netherlands.

The file also includes communications with Eralbi Breçani. In an October 2020 conversation, Mata talks about “loads” and the possibility of ensuring “safe exits” for the goods.

But the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil imposes an important limitation: it has not judged whether Ervin Mata is guilty or not of the crimes attributed to him.

The court explains that, in extradition proceedings, its review is limited and does not include a retrial of the facts, authorship, or evidence of the criminal case.

According to the ruling, only a preliminary legal assessment is made to determine whether the conditions for extradition are met. The court finds that the principle of dual criminality exists, that the offenses are not time-barred, and that there is no legal obstacle to extradition.

Extradition has been approved as an investigative procedure, that is, to be subjected to criminal proceedings in Albania and not for the execution of a final conviction.

However, Ervin Mata is not automatically handed over to Albanian authorities. The ruling stipulates that surrender depends on the discretionary decision of the President of Brazil.

In addition, Albania must formalize the guarantees provided by Brazilian law, including that Mata will not be prosecuted for a prior fact different from the one for which extradition is sought, that the time spent in pre-trial detention in Brazil will be credited, and that he will not be subjected to torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment.

The decision of the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil is unanimous and dated August 24, 2026. The rapporteur of the case is Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

Thus, the Brazilian court has paved the way for Ervin Mata’s extradition to Albania, but his physical surrender remains conditioned by the procedures set out in the ruling.

An Albanian national, who was placed on the international wanted list by the Albanian judicial authorities, has been extradited from Kosovo.

The operation was carried out at the Vërmica border crossing by the Directorate for International Police Cooperation, in coordination with the relevant Kosovo Police units and judicial institutions.

The woman had previously been detained by the Kosovar authorities after an international arrest warrant was issued for her through INTERPOL at the request of Albania’s judicial institutions.

She is accused of “assisting illegal border crossings” and “forgery of documents,” offenses that authorities suspect were committed as part of a structured criminal group.

After the necessary procedures were completed, the woman was handed over to the competent authorities of the Republic of Albania, which will continue the legal proceedings against her.

Sh., who was wanted internationally after the Basic Court of Pristina issued an arrest warrant for him for the criminal offense of “Unauthorized purchase, possession, distribution and sale of narcotics.”

The State Police has released footage of Sokol Hoxha’s deportation from the US to Albania. He is accused of three murders in Albania and Belgium.

In the footage released by the State Police, Hoxha can be seen getting off the plane without handcuffs, appearing calm and even greeting the US authorities.

Hoxha, 51, had been on the run for around 30 years. In 2000, the Fier Court sentenced him to 25 years in prison for the criminal offense of “Murder,” committed in cooperation, after he and another person shot and killed two brothers for trivial motives in Patos on March 30, 1997.

Meanwhile, in 2010, the Brussels Court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the intentional murder of an Albanian woman in Brussels, a crime committed on August 29, 1997.

According to the authorities, the victim had previously been exploited for prostitution by the convicted man.

Albanian authorities have forwarded their French counterparts the documentation for the extradition of businessman Ermal Beqiri, who was arrested in France a few days ago.

According to sources close to the Special Prosecution Office, SPAK asked the Ministry of Justice to send the official extradition request to French law enforcement authorities.

The request was accompanied by the Special Court’s decision ordering Beqiri to be remanded in custody. The businessman is suspected of committing seven criminal offenses.

Ermal Beqiri was arrested in France after he was caught flying a private plane over a nuclear power plant in Normandy at an altitude below the permitted limit.

Following his arrest, SPAK released details of the international operation that led to him being located and detained.

According to SPAK, cooperation was requested from the French authorities on June 19, 2026, amid suspicions that Beqiri was in French territory.

The Special Prosecution Office’s investigation identified assets worth millions of euros, including bank accounts holding more than €2 million, two apartments, and the purchase of a castle in France’s Oise department worth around €2.6 million. SPAK has asked the French authorities to seize these assets.

The case against Beqiri is also linked to the investigation into the activities of “Soft & Solution,” an electronic money financial institution whose license was revoked by the Bank of Albania in April this year. The decision came after SPAK issued an arrest warrant for the company’s shareholder on suspicion of participating in a structured criminal group.

Beqiri is also suspected of having benefited from a tender worth more than €1.1 million after his right-hand man, Ergys Agasi, allegedly threatened a company participating in the bidding process.

As part of the investigation into AKSHI, SPAK also identified a luxury yacht believed to be owned by the businessman, a Predator 50 Skyfall with a market value of around €1 million.

The yacht was registered in the name of Xhenila Tamizi, an employee of “Soft & Solution,” but prosecutors suspect that it was purchased by Beqiri himself.

Pristina, August 4 – A Kosovar citizen identified by the initials K.B., who was internationally wanted for the criminal offense of aggravated theft, was extradited today from Switzerland to Kosovo, the Kosovo Police announced.

According to the police, the operation was carried out by the Directorate for International Police Cooperation, in coordination with the relevant Kosovo Police units and justice institutions.

K.B. had previously been detained by the Swiss authorities following the issuance of an international arrest warrant through INTERPOL at the request of Kosovo’s justice institutions.

Upon arriving in Kosovo, he was handed over to the competent Kosovo Police units, which will proceed with the legal procedures.

A 42-year-old man from Tirana has been extradited from Italy to Albania. He is Sefer Selimaj, who was sentenced by the Albanian justice system to 15 years in prison.
