CNA has learned that, from his prison cell in Durrës, Erion Veliaj has caused another scandal by blocking the salaries of Tirana Municipality employees.

The salaries were supposed to be signed today by Ristani, who no longer has the authority to do so, as she was dismissed by Erion Veliaj on August 28.

Municipality employees are at risk of being left without their salaries.

Since his arrest, Erion Veliaj has held the Tirana Municipality hostage by refusing to resign as mayor. Veliaj is seeking to use the Tirana Municipality to secure his release from the cell where he has been held since February 10, 2025, on five serious criminal charges./Source: CNA.al
