A considerable number of Kosovo emigrants have been stranded at the border crossing between Serbia and Croatia, where they spent the entire night waiting to continue their journey.

Travelers at the border report that the lines of vehicles are long, while the wait has lasted for hours.

Speaking to IO, one of the emigrants said they had been waiting at the Serbia–Croatia border for more than 9 hours.

According to him, during this time they had run out of water and food, as there are no stores in the area where they could replenish their supplies.

“We have been waiting for more than 9 hours, stranded at the Serbia–Croatia border. We have run out of water and food. We hope the authorities of Kosovo will find a solution to this situation,” he said.

The emigrant also sent a video from the scene, showing the lines of vehicles heading toward the border with Croatia.

More than 30,000 people have traveled from Albania to Greece through the Kapshtica border crossing over the past four days, marking a significant surge in movement.

The travelers are mainly Albanian emigrants who had come to the country to spend their holidays and are now heading back to Greece, where they live and work.

The high number of crossings has caused long lines of vehicles at the border crossing. According to travelers, waiting times are reaching up to two hours, while high temperatures are making the wait at the border even more difficult.

To manage the flow, four counters are operating on each side of the border to process travelers and vehicles, with the aim of reducing waiting times.

The line also stretches into the neutral zone, where emigrants remain in their vehicles while waiting for the procedures to be completed amid high temperatures.

Kapshtica remains one of the main crossing points for Albanian emigrants during the summer season. Movement is also expected to remain heavy in the coming days, as emigrants are ending their holidays and returning to the countries where they live.

During just three days, from August 17 to 19, 18,000 exits from Albania were recorded at Kapshtica.

The flow is expected to continue in the coming days, while the Albanian side is working at full capacity to process vehicles and travelers and reduce waiting times at the border crossing as much as possible.

Kapshtica is one of the main crossing points for Albanian emigrants who live and work in Greece and return to the country during the summer months to spend their holidays with their families.

The National Center for Border Management has released the latest information on the situation at border crossings, where some points report significant delays and long queues of cars.

According to the report from 13:26 on July 23, 2026, the longest queue has formed at Muçibabë, where travelers intending to enter Kosovo wait up to a full hour, while the line of vehicles stretches for about 1000 meters.

A high influx is also observed at the Dheu i Bardhë point, with the same waiting time for entry and a queue reaching 150 meters, while for those exiting the waiting time is about 25 minutes and the column measures 90 meters.

On the other hand, at Hani i Elezit the situation appears more eased: entry requires about 15 minutes with a 100-meter queue, while exit takes around 5 minutes.

As for other crossings, such as Bërnjak, Jarinje, Kulla, Merdare, Mutivodë, Qafa e Morinës, Qafa e Prushit, Stançiq, Vërmica and Glloboçica, waits range from 2 to 15 minutes and no large vehicle formations are reported.

According to a witness on the ground, vehicle traffic has been suspended by the authorities, while the queues have stretched excessively and waiting times are dragging on for hours.

He adds that many travelers have been left without food supplies and water, and among those stranded are families with minors. The situation is further aggravated by the high temperatures and the prolonged waiting time.

No official explanation has yet been given for the causes of this blockade, nor for when normality might return to traffic. Meanwhile, travelers are calling for a solution as quickly as possible.

Klankosova.tv has sought a response from the Kosovo Embassy in Zagreb and from the Croatian Ministry of the Interior regarding the concerns raised by the stranded compatriots.

According to him, the reports indicate that travelers are having their mobile phones, personal data and social media checked, while some claim that after these inspections they were asked for up to 200 euros.

Calling such behavior unacceptable, Bajqinovci urged compatriots to avoid passing through Serbia whenever possible while traveling to Kosovo.

Many concerned compatriots are writing to me saying that while passing through Serbia on their way to spend their holidays in Kosovo, they are facing long stops, pressure, unjustified checks and robbery.

According to the reports I am receiving, Serbian police are asking them to unlock their mobile phones and are checking their personal data and even their social media, violating fundamental human rights. Some of them even complain that after these checks they are being robbed, with up to 200 euros demanded from them under pressure.

It is unacceptable for our compatriots to be treated this way while traveling to their homeland.

Because of these troubling reports, I call on compatriots to avoid passing through Serbia whenever they can when coming to Kosovo.
