Armend Zemaj, an elected deputy of the Democratic League of Kosovo, said after a meeting of the parliamentary group that the party’s position on the formation of new institutions has not changed. According to him, responsibility for creating the institutions lies with the Vetëvendosje Movement, as the force that constitutes the parliamentary majority.

Zemaj said the LDK aims to avoid holding snap elections, while regarding the possibility of a meeting during the day between Lumir Abdixhiku and Albin Kurti, he stressed that the country is already at the limits of the constitutional deadlines.

He underscored that, if functional cooperation in government is sought, the division of powers must be balanced.

“The goal remains the same: avoiding snap elections, which are not in the citizen’s interest. The burden of responsibility for creating the new institutions falls on Kurti, as the representative of the parliamentary majority. I do not believe so, because the session has been called for tomorrow; today has simply passed. We are not in a situation of urgency, but at the limit of the constitutional deadlines, since the new parliament must be constituted tomorrow. The LDK’s positions are public: the division of powers must be balanced if a functional partnership in Kosovo’s interest is desired. If personal interests or ambitions to preserve state positions in the service of a political party are being pursued, then the LDK sees no other way to contribute apart from the democratic vote it holds in parliament,” Zemaj said.

Asked whether the post of parliamentary speaker would be enough for the party or whether it also seeks the presidency, Zemaj said that the LDK’s focus is not on positions, but on creating a partnership that works.

“This issue, raised by the LVV in the name of positions, concerns credible posts that guarantee a partnership. The parliamentary speaker belongs to the parliamentary majority, both under the Constitution and in terms of parliamentary representation. Meanwhile, the other areas related to the executive and control over power, such as the role of the president, go beyond the level of party representation accorded to a political entity through the position of parliamentary speaker,” he said.

Following the certification of the results of the June 7 elections, LVV leader Albin Kurti held meetings with the leaders of the LDK and PDK.

At the second meeting, LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku accepted the invitation, but the parties failed to reach an agreement.

The constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo will be held tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. However, following the establishment of the 11th legislature, a solution has still not been found for the election of the president.
