A serious motorcycle accident on the Greek island of Crete claimed the lives of two young Albanians. They have been identified as Edison Xhaka, 28, originally from Elbasan, and Aleksandër Toçila, 34, from Gramsh.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday at around 03:00 on the Kissamos–Chania road, near the Kolymbari area. Greek authorities said that, under circumstances that remain unclear, the motorcycle carrying the two young men veered off the road and crashed into the metal barrier along its edge.

The impact proved fatal for both Albanians, who died at the scene. Although emergency crews arrived at the crash site, they were unable to save them.

Edison Xhaka had lived and worked in the Kissamos area for years, while Aleksandër Toçila had moved there some time ago for work.

The loss of the two compatriots has shocked and saddened the Albanian community living in Crete. The “Kastel” Albanian Association in Kissamos responded after the incident, remembering the victims as respected and hardworking young men and extending condolences to their families, relatives and friends.

The association’s announcement said that condolences for Edison Xhaka would be received at the home of his brother, Festim Xhaka. For Aleksandër Toçila, mourners will be received at the association’s premises, which will remain open to fellow Albanians.

Greek authorities are continuing their investigation to fully establish the circumstances and causes of the tragic accident in which the two young Albanians lost their lives.

Ngjarja tragjike u regjistrua të enjten, rreth orës 03:00, në rrugën Kissamos–Hania, afër zonës së Kolymbarit. Autoritetet greke bëjnë të ditur se, në rrethana ende të paqarta, motoçikleta ku udhëtonin të rinjtë doli nga rruga dhe u përplas me barrierën metalike në anë të saj.

Goditja rezultoi vdekjeprurëse për të dy shqiptarët, të cilët humbën jetën në vend. Edhe pse ekipet e emergjencës shkuan në zonën e aksidentit, ndërhyrja e tyre nuk arriti t’i shpëtonte.

Edison Xhaka kishte vite që banonte dhe punonte në zonën e Kissamosit. Ndërsa Aleksandër Toçila ishte zhvendosur atje prej disa kohësh për motive pune.

Humbja e dy bashkatdhetarëve ka tronditur dhe pikëlluar komunitetin shqiptar që jeton në Kretë. Shoqata Shqiptare “Kastel” në Kisamo reagoi pas ngjarjes, duke i kujtuar viktimat si djem të respektuar dhe punëtorë, si dhe u përcolli ngushëllime familjeve, të afërmve dhe miqve të tyre.

Në njoftimin e shoqatës thuhet se ngushëllimet për Edison Xhakën do të priten në banesën e vëllait të tij, Festim Xhaka. Për Aleksandër Toçilën, pritjet do të mbahen në ambientet e shoqatës, të cilat do të qëndrojnë të hapura për bashkatdhetarët.

Autoritetet greke po vazhdojnë hetimet për të sqaruar plotësisht rrethanat dhe shkaqet e aksidentit tragjik, në të cilin humbën jetën dy të rinjtë shqiptarë.
