Three tankers carrying drinking and technical water were made available today for the needs of Gostivar residents, announced Stojanče Angelov, director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue.

According to Angelov, the operation involved one tanker from NJZT Gostivar, one from the Bektel and Enka company, and another from Bogovinje. Each of them has so far made two deliveries to residents, while two more deliveries from each tanker are expected by the evening.

The water is being distributed in close coordination with the Municipal Protection and Rescue Headquarters of the Municipality of Gostivar.

The situation in Gostivar remains unchanged, Angelov reiterated. The water is still not suitable for drinking, as bacteria have continued to be detected in some of the samples analyzed by the Institute of Public Health. It is permitted only for technical use, while it is expected to be declared safe soon if hyperchlorination continues.

According to the pyrotechnicians of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DPR), the grenade found near the border with Greece poses a major risk, as it could have a deadly effect at a distance of up to 150 meters. They stress that even a single impact is enough for it to activate and explode.

DPR pyrotechnician Gjorgji Stefanov explained that it is an artillery shell from the First World War, which was most likely fired at the time but did not explode and remained active. According to him, even the slightest touch or impact could cause an immediate explosion, as this is an extremely dangerous munition, with potentially fatal consequences within a radius of about 150 meters.

Authorities said the grenade will be transported for safe disposal at the Krivolak military training ground, following the relevant procedures for the destruction of unexploded ordnance.

Meanwhile, Angelov called on citizens that if they come across suspicious objects resembling explosive devices, they should not touch them and should report them immediately by calling 112.
