The victim has been identified as Erkin Lika.

According to information, the tragic घटना occurred while the young man was climbing with a rope, and he is suspected of having fallen into the Mat River.

He was an artist of great stature and a respected citizen, who over the years conveyed precious artistic and human values. Born in Senicë, Delvinë, he took part in his youth as a partisan in the war in the Korçë district. In the early 1960s, he stood out as an actor with the Maliq Estrada and later joined the Korçë theater troupe, remaining devoted to the stage for decades. Through his roles and his unique performances, he gave Albanian theater and film unforgettable characters.

Throughout his career, Qendro portrayed a wide range of characters, both on stage and beyond, earning praise from critics. His distinguished performances include his role as Sir Enry Egidi in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at the “AZ Çajupi” Theater in Korçë, under the direction of Pirro Mani. In this production, he demonstrated his ability to portray a variety of characters, from a harmless buffoon to a brave knight, a coward, and Olivia’s unfortunate lover.

Another important role was that of Harpagon in Molière’s opera “The Miser,” directed by Dhimitër Orgocka. [ 8 ] He performed this role twice, first in 1976 and again in 2005, nearly thirty years later, winning the “Best Actor” award at the “Apollon” festival in Fier.

Qendro also made a significant contribution to preserving the history of theater in the Korçë region, working with dedication to create the archive and museum hall dedicated to the local theatrical heritage. In recognition of his contributions both during the National Liberation War and on stage, he was honored with six medals and three orders, including the “Red Star” and “Naim Frashëri.”

“On the occasion of the passing of police officer Rexhep Gashi, who lost his life while performing his official duty, the Kosovo Police Union expresses its most sincere condolences to the family, relatives, colleagues, and all members of the Kosovo Police. According to information made public by the Kosovo Police, the accident was recorded at around 02:30 on the morning of June 29. Rexhep Gashi, 59, was patrolling on foot near the border crossing in Vermica when at one moment he tried to cross the road. At that very moment, he was struck by a vehicle traveling on the Prizren-Vermica route.

Police said that as a result of the impact, Gashi died at the scene. His body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, while the driver of the vehicle, D.D., a citizen of the Republic of Albania, was detained for 48 hours on the order of the prosecutor. In connection with the case, the investigation is being conducted by the Basic Prosecution Office in Prizren.

After receiving medical assistance on the pretrial detention premises, the detainee was transported to hospital, where, despite medical care, he did not survive.

Statement:

In the early hours of the morning of 28.06.2026, a medical emergency was recorded at IEVP Shkodër. The detainee with the initials Ç. J., born on 10.11.1964, who was accommodated in the same room as his son, prisoner with the initials D. J., suffered a sudden deterioration in his health condition, making the immediate intervention of medical staff necessary.

The institution’s healthcare staff immediately provided first aid and, due to the worsening of his condition, it was decided that he should be urgently transported to Koplik Hospital.

During transport, as well as after his arrival at the hospital emergency department, the medical staff carried out all cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures, but despite continued efforts, doctors confirmed his death.

In accordance with legal procedures, the competent authorities were immediately notified and have begun procedural actions to fully document the case and clarify the circumstances of the incident.

The General Directorate of Prisons expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and guarantees full cooperation with the justice authorities for the full clarification of this case.

New York police said emergency crews found the victim, identified as Paul Cooker from Connecticut, unconscious and with severe injuries consistent with a fall from an “elevated position.”

He was immediately transported to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident, while the possibility of a criminal act has so far been ruled out.

According to reports, the 51-year-old was at the concert with his wife to watch the performance by the rock band Goose.

In a statement, the band said it was “deeply shaken” by the tragic incident. They also announced that their Sunday concert in Central Park would go ahead and that the proceeds would be donated to a charity supporting their fans and community.

“We thought carefully about whether we should perform today and came to the conclusion that the best way forward is to stay united and support one another,” the band said in its statement.
