According to the press release, the measure was imposed on defendant B.H., on grounded suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of Aggravated Murder (depriving another person of life in a cruel or deceitful manner) under the Criminal Code, as well as on defendant I.H., on grounded suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of Failure to Provide Assistance (where the criminal offense resulted in the death of the endangered person) in connection with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

The court assessed that the legal conditions for ordering detention exist and that the evidence secured at this stage gives rise to grounded suspicion that B.H., on 29.06.2026, at around 23:00, in the village of Zlipotok, Municipality of Dragash, intentionally deprived the now deceased G.T. of his life.

The statement says that, according to the investigation so far, the case is suspected to have occurred after a previous dispute between the defendant and the victim over the use of a property, specifically a meadow. According to the same source, B.H. is suspected of having inflicted injuries on the victim with a sharp instrument, a knife, and as a result G.T. died at the scene.

Regarding the other defendant, I.H., who is B.H.’s father, the statement emphasizes that he is suspected of not taking the necessary actions to provide assistance to the victim, who was in direct danger to life, even though he was near the place where the incident occurred and had the opportunity to help without endangering himself or others.

The court also said that if these facts are proven, they will be examined in the further stages of the criminal proceedings. The pre-trial judge, relying on the material evidence collected so far and considering the suspicion that the defendants committed the criminal offenses to be well-founded, assessed that detention is the measure that ensures their presence and enables the normal and unobstructed conduct of the criminal proceedings.

The statement goes on to say that, taking into account the serious nature of the criminal offenses suspected to have been committed, as well as the manner and circumstances of the event, according to which B.H. is suspected of cruelly or deceitfully stabbing the victim, the now deceased G.T., in the back and neck, as well as the fact that he left the scene and was later found and arrested by Police, the Court believes there is a risk of flight and escape with the aim of avoiding criminal responsibility. For this reason, detention at this stage was deemed necessary.

According to the statement, the detention measure was considered reasonable and in accordance with the law, with the aim of ensuring the smooth progress of the investigation, the securing of material evidence, the taking of statements from witnesses and suspects, as well as the appearance of the defendants before justice institutions to clarify the case and prevent their escape. The judge also assessed that other alternative measures would not be sufficient to guarantee the presence of the suspects and the unobstructed conduct of the investigative phase.

Hateme Haxhaj, spokesperson for the court, told KosovaPress that the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica submitted the request to extend the measure on June 18, 2026.

According to her, the pre-trial judge in the Serious Crimes Department of the Basic Court in Mitrovica, through a ruling dated 25.06.2026, decided that A.S.’s detention be extended until 25.08.2026.

Haxhaj also announced that the investigation into the case has not yet been completed. She explained that, by order of the pre-trial judge and following a request from the defendant’s defense lawyer, a psychiatric examination of the defendant was ordered.

According to information available to the court, A.S. has been sent to the premises of the Kosovo Institute of Forensic Psychiatry for the conducting and completion of this examination.

The case occurred on May 27, 2026, in the Roma neighborhood of Mitrovica, when one person was killed, while his brother was left injured as a result of a knife attack.

The Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica had announced that the victim had sustained injuries to the throat area from a cold weapon — a knife. Immediately after the incident, the suspect was arrested and, by decision of the duty prosecutor of the Serious Crimes Department, was placed in custody.

According to the press release, in deciding on detention, the court found that the legal conditions for imposing this measure had been met. Based on the evidence secured up to this stage, there is a well-grounded suspicion that on June 22, at around 08:15, in the Arbanë neighborhood of Prizren, at a residential building, the defendant A.G., in his capacity as the person responsible for safety and health in the workplace, negligently failed to install protective equipment, did not ensure its use when necessary, and did not act in accordance with the provisions or technical rules on workplace safety measures.

According to the same statement, on the day in question A.G., as the driver and person in charge of the concrete pump, did not position the pump safely. During the unloading of concrete from the mixer, the pump slipped at one point, and as a result of this slippage, a pipe detached from the pump and struck the victim, V.M., in the head, causing his death. The statement emphasizes that these facts will be further assessed in the later stages of the criminal proceedings.

It further states that the preliminary proceedings judge, relying on the material evidence collected so far and considering the suspicion that the defendant committed the criminal offense to be well-founded, found that detention would ensure his presence and enable the normal, unhindered conduct of the criminal proceedings.

The statement adds that the investigation is still in its initial phase, and therefore the case witnesses must be heard, the defendant must be questioned, and additional material evidence must be secured. Likewise, given the grave consequences caused in the workplace, the preliminary proceedings judge found that detention is, for now, the appropriate and necessary measure. According to the statement, the court also expects swift and efficient handling of the case by the State Prosecutor, with the aim of fully clarifying the incident.
