The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Avdullah Hoti has described the way the process of constituting the Kosovo Assembly is being conducted as incompatible with any form of political conduct.

He said that the LDK would attend an Assembly session if one were convened, while stressing that decisions on the next steps would be discussed after the Assembly is constituted.

“This is outside any form of political conduct. If a session is convened, we will attend; that is clear. We are not simply dealing with a violation of the Constitution, but every action being taken is completely outside the constitutional framework,” Hoti declared.

Speaking about the possibility of the LDK referring the matter to the Constitutional Court, Hoti said that the issue had already been discussed, but the group had not yet adopted a final position. According to him, the decision would be made after the Assembly is constituted.

“We will discuss it. We have addressed this issue, but we have not yet taken a position. Once the Assembly is constituted, we must decide how to proceed,” he said.

Hoti also stressed that the LDK has the right to nominate its representative to the Assembly Presidency, explaining that the powers of the speaker differ from those of the deputy speaker.

“The speaker of the Assembly represents the Kosovo Assembly, while the deputy speaker represents the parliamentary group. For this reason, it is entirely within our discretion to nominate the person who represents us in the Assembly Presidency,” he said.

Democratic League of Kosovo MP Avdullah Hoti has proposed organizing a major party convention aimed at determining its political direction and restoring trust among its structures.

According to Hoti, all levels and structures of the LDK should take part in this process.

“The LDK urgently needs a major convention, a major reconciliation to clarify our path forward,” he wrote.

The Democratic MP said the convention should mark a new beginning for the party while also selecting the team that will lead it in the next election.

“The convention should be a major unifying moment and a new beginning for the LDK. It should determine the team that will lead the LDK to victory in the next election,” Hoti declared.

He stressed that strengthening internal trust is essential for creating unity, teamwork and electoral success.

“Above all, the convention must restore internal trust, which is a prerequisite for unity, teamwork and victory,” Hoti wrote.

Hoti said he would contribute to carrying out this process, stressing that only a united LDK can regain the trust of citizens.

Democratic League of Kosovo MP Jehona Lushaku-Sadriu has criticized the situation in the Assembly, which has failed to be constituted.

According to her, MPs and political parties went to the Assembly with the aim of establishing the institutions and making them functional.

“We came as MPs and political parties to constitute the institutions and make them functional in the service of the state of Kosovo. However, we are facing complete irresponsibility from the first-largest party, which has failed to fulfill its constitutional obligation to propose a candidate for Assembly Speaker so that the candidate can be voted on and the Assembly constituted. This is a major shortcoming, but the responsibility lies with them. I call on all citizens to look at this picture of an Assembly that convenes but fails to constitute itself, while responsibility falls on the largest party,” she declared.

Lushaku-Sadriu stressed that she did not want to discuss possible scenarios, saying that attention should instead focus on the responsibility and seriousness that political parties must demonstrate toward the state and institutions of Kosovo.

“I do not wish to answer any questions. Today, it is a truly bad feeling, as the Assembly failed to be constituted. I do not want to talk about scenarios, but about the responsibility and seriousness of political parties toward this state and our institutions. For this reason, I once again call on the largest party to act seriously, put forward a candidate, and enable the institutions to be constituted,” said Jehona Lushaku-Sadriu of the LDK.
