Kosovo’s acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, met today with U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, whom she awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit in recognition of her longstanding commitment.

In a Facebook post, Haxhiu described Ernst as a proven friend of Kosovo and an important voice in strengthening the partnership between the Republic of Kosovo and the United States of America.

According to Haxhiu, the meeting focused on recent political developments in Kosovo, security issues, and the need to continue close cooperation with the United States.

Haxhiu said the decoration was awarded to Senator Ernst as a token of appreciation for her valuable contribution to deepening Kosovo–U.S. relations and supporting the strengthening of the Republic of Kosovo’s defense capabilities.

“Kosovo will continue to build its future alongside the United States, consolidating a partnership of particular strategic and historical importance to our country,” Haxhiu wrote.

In a post on social media, Haxhiu announced that the decoration was awarded to Berg at the end of his term as the US Defense Attaché in Kosovo.

She expressed gratitude to Colonel Berg for his dedication in supporting the development and modernization of the Kosovo Security Force, as well as for encouraging interinstitutional cooperation and strengthening defense ties between the two countries.

“Today I had the pleasure of decorating Colonel A. J. Berg with the Presidential Military Medal, as a sign of appreciation for his outstanding contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership and military cooperation between the Republic of Kosovo and the United States of America,” Haxhiu wrote.
