This Thursday, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha leveled serious accusations against Taulant Balla during his speech in Parliament. Berisha described the previous speaker as the ugliest representative of crime and accused him of having freed the two terrorists who planted explosives under the seat of Lulzim Kulla’s bicycle.

According to him, Balla is the intermediary in vote-trading deals and the figure identified in the document known as “bundra,” while claiming that Balla himself is the real “bundrra.”

Berisha also addressed him with the words: “Why are you saying this, sir? Go to court and defend him as a lawyer.”

The Democratic Party leader also said he could read out the deals that, according to him, Balla arranges for Suel Çela’s cars.

He added that the citizens present are demanding an end to Parliament because MPs represent gangs and crime, not citizens.

During the plenary session proceedings, Democratic Party MP Saimir Korreshi requested the floor on a procedural matter, but his attention was focused on Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi.

Korreshi began sarcastically, calling out: “Hellooo, Mr. Speaker, are you listening?” Peleshi did not hesitate to reply immediately: “Go meet that ‘Mr. Speaker’ of yours where you have your friends.” The Democratic MP shot back: “Fine, but focus here because we are discussing exactly you and the procedure.”

Peleshi continued, reminding him: “This is not a folk event, it’s a plenary session,” while Korreshi sarcastically added: “Where were you? Did you fall asleep? We’re talking about you.” Irritated, Peleshi shot back: “Don’t address me with ‘ti’ because I don’t use that form with you.” Korreshi immediately changed his tone, addressing him with forced formality: “Honorable and most respected Mr. Speaker, I am addressing you with ‘ju’ as you request.”

Then, the opposition MP attacked the way Parliament is managed and issues relating to European integration. He raised concerns about long committee hours and IPARD funds, considering them empty promises repeated every two months. Korreshi also mentioned the failure to pass 35 opposition amendments and expressed reservations about Marta Kos’s visit, saying she should not speak against the European Parliament report.

In response, Peleshi stressed that some things cannot be explained with the language of the fruit and vegetable market. According to him, some citizens out in the square may be negatively influenced when they hear MPs who think their mandate gives them the right to insult and offend whomever they want, thereby setting the worst example for children with their vocabulary.

The parliamentary session began with heated discussions over the agenda and procedures. Taulant Balla, head of the Socialist group, proposed a change to the agenda, requesting that the review of a bill be postponed to the next session.

Balla argued that the bill on European companies is closely tied to the government’s commitments in the EU integration process, especially for Chapter 17.

“Since this law concerns the duties and work the government is doing on EU Chapter 17, I propose that it be combined with the session on the 23rd, at the next meeting. I congratulate the ministers on their work,” he said.

After him, Gazment Bardhi, head of the Democratic group, reacted by expressing concern over how the agenda was drafted. He accused the majority of obstructing the opposition’s legislative initiatives.

According to him, for seven weeks, four bills proposed by the opposition have been blocked, while those of the majority are being reviewed without delay, which constitutes a violation of the Assembly’s rules.

Addressing the Speaker of Parliament, Niko Peleshi, Bardhi demanded that if European integration is the argument for postponing laws, then the four opposition bills should also be put on the agenda.

“Since we removed them for the sake of integration, let’s include our four laws for the sake of integration,” he said, stressing that the majority is favoring only its own initiatives.

After the debates ended, the agenda change was put to a vote and approved with 75 votes in favor and 31 against.

Muçi accused Rama of focusing on protesters while remaining silent when it comes to issues related to the national interest.

The MP asked what the prime minister was waiting for to respond to the Serbian minister’s statement and to the support Dačić has given her, at a time when Kosovo has declared Paunović persona non grata. He stressed that ethnic cleansing is considered a crime against humanity and that such chauvinistic positions run contrary to Albania’s Constitution, which provides for the protection of the rights of Albanians living abroad. According to him, if Rama does not speak out on such a statement, the question arises as to what he will take a position on.

Earlier, majority MPs had voted down a resolution proposed by the opposition on recognising the Serbian genocide in Kosovo.

Muçi also stated that Rama claimed to have uncovered foreign agents at the protest, singled out protesters and attacked well-known figures who joined the rally. He said the prime minister had tasked Taulant with attacking the few journalists who remain and had not hesitated to go after Dua Lipa either, yet had still not commented on the Serbian minister’s statement. According to the MP, the reason may be that Rama and his friend Vučić face the same concern: young people’s contempt.

In response, the head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, said that the Albanian government had responded promptly through the Foreign Ministry, while using harsh language against Muçi.

Balla said such issues should not be handled with “the clowning of political amateurs,” as they are of national importance and cannot be used for mockery. He described Muçi as a new cadet in Parliament seeking attention and said that the Socialists are not “clowns” like him and do not mock national issues. Referring to Rama, Balla told Muçi and his associates to “wash their mouths” before mentioning him, arguing that Rama is the only prime minister to have raised the Kosovo issue in the heart of Belgrade and made it completely clear in Brussels as well.

The clash extended to Gjiknuri as well, and after heated exchanges, he left the meeting.

Zemaj: I prefer debate within my political party
