The Tirana Prosecutor’s Office has concluded its investigation and sent three people to trial on charges of defrauding foreign nationals by claiming they would help them recover money lost through call centers.

The defendants, identified by the initials K.S., F.K. and E.A., are accused of the criminal offenses of “computer fraud” and “failure to report a crime.”

The investigation began after operational information was received about suspected illegal activity at premises on Zalli Street, in the Selita area, where a call center was operating. During a search of the premises, the authorities found several people seated at workstations set up as offices.

“The investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office at the Tirana Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction found that K.S. and F.K. were the individuals who recruited the employees. They explained the work process, which involved convincing foreign nationals that they could recover the money they had lost (Recovery),” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

The prosecution also said the investigation revealed that agents obtained information from clients about the circumstances in which they had lost their money and offered a solution for recovering it.

“They gathered information about the clients’ circumstances, the situation they were in, how they had lost their money and which companies they had previously worked with. The clients were then scheduled for a meeting with an expert to review the case, while K.S. and F.K. handled the subsequent calls.”
