The 400-kilovolt energy interconnection project between Albania and North Macedonia is entering its final implementation phase, according to statements by MEPSO head Burim Latifi. He stressed that work on the 400 kV Ohrid substation has made significant progress toward completion, and after the installation of main and auxiliary equipment, technical and operational testing has begun.

After an on-site inspection visit, Latifi said that these procedures represent the final stage before the substation becomes operational, being a key link in the project aimed at integrating the power grids of the two countries.

The director of MEPSO JSC added that progress is also being made at a steady pace in the rest of the initiative, specifically on the 400 kV transmission line linking Bitola with Elbasan. He noted that pole erection has begun, with some already installed, while work continues intensively at other points along the line’s route. According to him, this advancement demonstrates an unwavering commitment to completing the project within the planned deadlines.

On the other hand, the political formation VLEN described this project as part of a broader strategy for the development of Corridor 8, which includes not only road and railway connections but also extends into the energy field, serving as a bridge between North Macedonia, Albania, and the European energy market.

VLEN assessed that the full completion of this project will generate a new connection of strategic importance for both countries, strengthen the stability of the transmission grid, increase cross-border exchange opportunities, and accelerate the integration of the regional energy market. For this political force, Corridor 8 goes beyond the simple meaning of an infrastructure project and represents a development vision that brings the country closer to the region and the European Union through modern energy, road, and railway corridors.

The project has not been without controversy. A few months ago, the opposition party BDI accused MEPSO and director Latifi, claiming they had seriously jeopardized the interconnection’s progress. According to BDI, actions related to the enforcement of a bank guarantee against the Croatian firm Dalekovod and the subsequent signing of a new contract worth 19.3 million euros with the same company raise questions about the professionalism of the decisions and the influence of party interests.

Projekti i interkoneksionit energjetik 400 kilovolt midis Shqipërisë dhe Maqedonisë së Veriut po hyn në etapën finale të zbatimit, sipas deklaratave të kreut të MEPSO-s, Burim Latifi. Ai theksoi se punimet në nënstacionin 400 kV të Ohrit kanë shënuar progres të ndjeshëm drejt finalizimit dhe pas montimit të pajisjeve kryesore e ndihmëse, kanë filluar testimet teknike dhe operacionale.

Pas një vizite inspektimi në terren, Latifi u shpreh se këto procedura përbëjnë fazën e fundit përpara se nënstacioni të bëhet funksional, duke qenë një hallkë kyçe e projektit që synon bashkimin e rrjeteve elektroenergjetike të dy shteteve.

Drejtori i SHA MEPSO shtoi se po ecet me ritëm edhe në pjesën tjetër të nismës, konkretisht në linjën e transmetimit 400 kV që lidh Manastirin me Elbasanin. Ai bëri të ditur se ka filluar ngritja e shtyllave, disa prej të cilave janë vendosur tashmë, ndërsa aktiviteti vijon me intensitet në pika të tjera përgjatë gjurmës së linjës. Sipas tij, ky avancim tregon angazhimin e palëkundur për ta çuar projektin në fund brenda afateve të parashikuara.

Nga ana tjetër, formacioni politik VLEN e cilësoi këtë projekt si pjesë të një strategjie më të gjerë për zhvillimin e Korridorit 8, i cili nuk përfshin vetëm lidhjet rrugore dhe hekurudhore, por shtrihet edhe në fushën energjetike, duke shërbyer si urë lidhëse mes Maqedonisë së Veriut, Shqipërisë dhe tregut evropian të energjisë.

Nga VLEN u vlerësua se realizimi i plotë i kësaj vepre do të gjenerojë një lidhje të re me rëndësi strategjike për dy vendet, do të forcojë stabilitetin e rrjetit të transmetimit, do të rrisë mundësitë e shkëmbimeve ndërkufitare dhe do të përshpejtojë integrimin e tregut energjetik rajonal. Për këtë forcë politike, Korridori 8 tejkalon kuptimin e thjeshtë të një projekti infrastrukturor dhe përfaqëson një vizion zhvillimi që e afron vendin me rajonin dhe Bashkimin Evropian nëpërmjet korridoreve moderne energjetike, rrugore dhe hekurudhore.

Projekti nuk ka qenë pa kontradikta. Disa muaj më parë, partia opozitare BDI hodhi akuza ndaj MEPSO-s dhe drejtorit Latifi, duke pretenduar se e kishin cenuar seriozisht ecurinë e interkoneksionit. Sipas BDI-së, veprimet që lidhen me ekzekutimin e garancisë bankare ndaj firmës kroate Dalekovod dhe nënshkrimi pasues i një kontrate të re me vlerë 19.3 milionë euro pikërisht me të njëjtën kompani, ngrenë pikëpyetje mbi profesionalizmin e vendimeve dhe ndikimin e interesave partiake.
