The British Embassy in Kosovo has reacted to the latest developments on the political scene, urging political actors to immediately begin negotiations and reach an agreement in the interest of citizens.

According to the embassy, over the past two years Kosovo has spent many days without a fully functioning parliament. Responsibility for this situation, the statement emphasized, lies with Kosovo’s politicians and not with the country’s system.

The statement underscored that parliament is the heart of democracy, as it oversees and holds the government accountable, while also enabling the adoption of laws that advance society and the economy. The embassy called on politicians to work together immediately to resolve the situation through dialogue and peaceful negotiations, for the benefit of the wonderful people of Kosovo and its international partnerships.

Today, LVV leader Albin Kurti once again requested more time to present a candidate for speaker of the Kosovo Assembly. He said the postponement should continue until a political agreement is reached on the election of the president.

Following Kurti’s request, Alliance MP Time Kadrijaj hit the LVV leader with eggs, causing disorder in the Assembly.

At the end, Avni Dehari, who was chairing the constituent session, suspended its proceedings.

Arian Gashi, Chair of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC), held an official meeting today with representatives of the British Embassy in Kosovo. The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of Mission Agnes Allens, Head of Rule of Law Margaret Belof, and Rule of Law Policy Implementation Officer Altina Besimi.

The talks took place in a positive and cooperative atmosphere, focusing on recent developments in Kosovo’s prosecutorial system, further strengthening the rule of law, and maintaining close interinstitutional cooperation with international partners.

The parties also discussed the Prosecutorial Council’s continued commitment to building an inclusive prosecutorial system. In this regard, ensuring the fair representation of all communities remains one of the institution’s main priorities.

Gashi announced that applications for the recruitment of new prosecutors will open soon, with the aim of advancing their fair representation within the country’s prosecutorial system.

Meanwhile, the British Embassy representatives reaffirmed their readiness to continue supporting the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and justice institutions in advancing reforms and further consolidating the rule of law in the country.
