Yesterday’s parliamentary session took place without the presence of Democratic Party MPs, a move harshly criticized by former lawmaker Ervin Salianji.

He interpreted this as a favor Sali Berisha is doing for Edi Rama.

Discontent was not limited to Salianji. Within the DP parliamentary group there were dissenting voices, with some MPs openly opposing the decision to abandon the meeting.

Through communication in the Democratic MPs’ group, Jorida Tabaku stressed that absence from Parliament strips opposition representatives of the only public space to confront the majority, recalling that this path has already been taken and “the consequences are known.”

According to her, every opportunity lawmakers are given for debate must be fully utilized.

MP Bujar Leskaj stood on the same line, calling the session boycott a mistake. He raised the question of what signal the opposition sends by not showing up in the Assembly chamber.

Ina Zhupa also proved critical, supporting the concerns raised by Leskaj and questioning the benefit this action brings to opposition forces.

Former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji has reacted after the Democratic Party decided this Monday not to participate in the plenary session in Parliament, boycotting it.

In a Facebook post, Salianji writes that the boycott of the parliamentary session is the greatest service the Democratic Party could do for Edi Rama, and he has accused Sali Berisha of coming to the prime minister’s aid.

According to the former MP, on the day when the PD should give a voice to protesters, the PD is acting on behalf of Sali Berisha’s personal interests.

“Today the Democratic Party should have given voice to the anger of citizens and young people who have started and are sustaining the longest popular revolt of recent years in Albania,” Salianji emphasizes in his post.

At the end of his post, Salianji stresses that Albanians must continue to demand the removal of the Berisha-Rama duo.

The full post:

The boycott of the parliamentary session is the greatest service that could be done for Edi Rama.

In the darkest days of this government, when citizens are in revolt and corrupt affairs have been exposed one after another, Sali Berisha once again chooses to come to Edi Rama’s aid, behaving like a co-conspirator and part of a co-governing arrangement!

Today Parliament should have been boiling. It should have been the arena where a decayed and morally ruined government was put with its back against the wall. Today the Democratic Party should have given voice to the anger of citizens and young people who have started and are sustaining the longest popular revolt of recent years in Albania.

But, it seems, Sali Berisha’s personal interest does not allow the Democratic Party to breathe, to fulfill its opposition mission, and to represent the citizens.

That is why change is demanded. That is why more and more citizens are demanding the removal of the co-governing duo Rama–Berisha.

Change will come, because their political partnership has now been exposed openly before the eyes of Albanians. They are no longer an alternative against each other; they are the guarantee of each other’s survival.

The Democratic Party’s Parliamentary Group has notified its representatives that it will not be present at the next Assembly session. Through an internal communication, MPs have been instructed not to participate in Thursday’s plenary session.

The notice communicated to the Democrats emphasizes that the decision was made in accordance with the political stance already announced publicly. This will mark the opposition’s second consecutive absence from the legislature’s proceedings, following the boycott that began last week’s session.

According to the party’s reasoning, the demands of the citizens, who have filled the boulevard with protests for 43 days, have not yet been met. The rallies have continued without interruption, targeting not only the government but also the way the opposition represents their interests, reflecting deep dissatisfaction with the entire political spectrum.

Well-known Albanian singer Aurela Gaçe has reacted on her social media accounts to posters put up in different parts of Tirana calling for her music and concerts to be boycotted.

During this “peak” period for all Albanian singers, Aurela had also announced that she would be in Shkodër to open the summer season. Following that announcement, the reaction of Albanians on social media was strong precisely because of the timing chosen, while protests against the government are being held every day in front of the prime minister’s office.

The singer has a long response for them, in which she in no way accepts their claim. She even stresses that she stands with the protesters, also pointing out the dates when she has been at protests, while in the end she closes by expressing her dilemma about the future of her children. Naturally, she does not hide reality, revealing that her close family members are abroad, while she has to help her parents live because of the insufficient pensions provided by the Albanian state.

Full post:

“Yesterday, friends were sending me such a post, where I was being declared an ‘Enemy’ by someone who thinks or believes that she loves Albania more than I do. I have taken part in protests since I was a student, including over Chemical Weapons, and I have protested with my whole being, even through very strong song lyrics, something I am sure the girl in question may not know.

In fact, she may not know that I have also been in the square alongside my people even now (with the exact date from my archive). I have reacted several times in my own way through this window of mine, but apparently this lady does not like it.

1 – No one can tell me or dictate to me how to love my country.

2: If you complain about dictatorship, then why do you yourself dictate how we should behave? Is this not violence too?

This clearly shows me that if you gain power in the future, you will trample me underfoot.

I have many reasons why I feel I should protest.

I live here and I know very well the heavy burden an Albanian carries on their shoulders.

I know it because I fight for everything myself.

I have chosen to work honestly so that tomorrow I can look at myself in the mirror and not be ashamed. To some colleagues I may have seemed foolish, but my dignity is far more precious to me.

I am the daughter of this people and I stand by my people, who for so many years have been dragged along just to earn bread, to pay rent, to get treated at hospital doors (I too have parents and relatives, and of course I am also a person who tomorrow may face anything).

I am the daughter of two pensioners who have certainly worked honestly like every Albanian, and today they cannot make it without the help of their children, and no one can deny that to me. I am the sister of a brother and a sister who have left, and the mother of two children for whom I naturally have the dilemmas of every parent about the future (which I fear I do not see here).

It would be a long list if I were to list the reasons why I protest. The people are not happy, and again no one can deny that to me. But when I see that you use verbal violence against someone who does not act like you, it shows how violent people can become.
