The Court of Appeal has confirmed the first-instance decision to keep judge Avdirrahman Gashi in detention, as he faces charges for the criminal offense of “Misuse of official position or authority”.

In its ruling dated August 21, 2026, the Appeal rejected as unfounded the complaint filed by the defendant’s defense lawyer, Halit Shaljani, thereby upholding the decision of the Basic Court in Prishtina – Special Department, issued on 15.08.2026.

The panel that reviewed the case consisted of presiding judge Vaton Durguti and members Mentor Bajraktari and Valon Kurtaj.

On August 15, 2026, the Special Department of the Basic Court in Prishtina had imposed a one-month detention measure on Gashi.

The arrest of Avdirrahman Gashi was carried out a day earlier, on August 14, 2026, by the Special Prosecution with the support of the Special Investigative Unit of the Kosovo Police, following a months-long investigation conducted by the authorities.

According to the Special Prosecution, there is reasonable suspicion that the judge is implicated in committing the criminal offense of “Abuse of official duty”.

Gjykata e Apelit ka konfirmuar vendimin e shkallës së parë për mbajtjen në paraburgim të gjyqtarit Avdirrahman Gashi, i cili përballet me akuza për veprën penale “Keqpërdorimi i pozitës apo autoritetit zyrtar”.

Kolegji që shqyrtoi çështjen përbëhej nga kryetari Vaton Durguti dhe anëtarët Mentor Bajraktari e Valon Kurtaj.

Më 15 gusht 2026, Departamenti Special i Gjykatës Themelore në Prishtinë kishte vendosur masën e paraburgimit prej një muaji për Gashin.

Arrestimi i Avdirrahman Gashit u krye një ditë më parë, më 14 gusht 2026, nga Prokuroria Speciale me mbështetjen e Njësisë së Veçantë Hetimore të Policisë së Kosovës, pas një hetimi disamujor që kishin zhvilluar autoritetet.

Sipas Prokurorisë Speciale, ekziston dyshimi i bazuar se gjyqtari është i implikuar në kryerjen e veprës penale “Keqpërdorimi i detyrës zyrtare”.
