The prosecution is expected to resume its investigation into Gjergj Cukali, who is suspected of murdering former police officer Arben Bilali, an incident that occurred seven years ago in Selitë.

The case was reopened following a ruling by the Court of Appeal, which assigned the prosecution new investigative tasks.

In connection with this episode, justice collaborator Enver Jamaku also gave testimony during a hearing held at the Special Court. News 24 has learned that his testimony also touches on Bilali’s murder.

Jamaku recounted a conversation with a person identified as Ad Bomi. According to him, he had gone to Xubi i Yzberishtit, the name he uses to refer to citizen Fatmir Avdillari, to collect a vehicle that had turned out to have a chassis problem. Ad Bomi had acted as an intermediary in the sale of the vehicle.

“When I met Xubi i Yzberishtit, Adi told me: ‘Don’t talk to this guy, brother, because he is Gjergj Cukali’s enemy, as Gjergji killed his friend Arben Bilali and his brother,’” Jamaku stated.

The justice collaborator claims that he discussed the matter with Ad Bomi on another occasion as well, and that Bomi repeated the same information to him.

However, in the testimony he gave before the Special Court, he provided no further details about the murder of the former police officer.

With the case file returned for investigation, investigators may question Jamaku again about his version of the incident and how he obtained this information.

Some time ago, the Court of Appeal overturned the first-instance ruling that had closed the investigation into Cukali and ordered the prosecution to investigate the Myslym Shyri strongman on charges of premeditated murder and illegal possession of weapons.

In 2020, the Tirana Court, at the prosecution’s request, closed the proceedings against Cukali due to a lack of evidence. DNA found on a plastic bottle discovered in the vehicle used in the murder had been deemed inadmissible evidence.

Arben Bilali, a former Police employee, was killed in Selitë in 2019. Earlier, he had also lost his two brothers: Bujar Bilali was killed in 1998, while Leonard, a former Dynamo wrestler, was killed in August 2010.

“Kur kam takuar Xubin e Yzberishtit, Adi më ka thënë: ‘Mos i jep muhabet këtij lale, se ky është hasmi i Gjergj Cukalit, pasi Gjergji i ka vrarë shokun e tij Arben Bilali dhe vëllain e tij’”, ka deklaruar Jamaku.

I penduari i drejtësisë pretendon se e ka biseduar këtë çështje edhe në një rast tjetër me Ad Bomin, i cili, sipas tij, i ka përsëritur të njëjtin informacion.

Megjithatë, në dëshminë e dhënë në Gjykatën e Posaçme ai nuk ka sjellë hollësi të tjera për vrasjen e ish-policit.

Në vitin 2020, Gjykata e Tiranës, me kërkesë të prokurorisë, e pushoi procedimin ndaj Cukalit për mungesë provash. ADN-ja e zbuluar në një shishe plastike, e gjetur në automjetin e përdorur në vrasje, ishte konsideruar provë e pavlefshme.

Arben Bilali, ish-punonjës i Policisë, u vra në Selitë në vitin 2019. Më herët, ai kishte humbur edhe dy vëllezërit: Bujar Bilali u vra në vitin 1998, ndërsa Leonardi, ish-mundës i Dinamos, në gusht të vitit 2010.
