The Kosovar executive has approved a series of decisions, among which the approval of the agreement for the expansion of the central heating network in the capital stands out, a project supported by a grant of 17.2 million euros.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti described this agreement, which will be signed between the Ministry of Finance, the company “Termokos” and the European Investment Bank, as one of the most vital infrastructure initiatives in the energy sector.

According to him, this action paves the way for the finalization of a crucial financial partnership to advance a project with concrete consequences in improving residents’ lives.

On his part, acting Minister of Finance Hekuran Murati stressed that this investment will make the percentage of citizens covered by central heating in Prishtina exceed the 50 percent threshold. He added that the initiative aims to extend pipelines to new neighborhoods and users, significantly increasing the quality and reliability of the service. Moreover, Murati highlighted that the project is expected to make a significant contribution to the fight against air pollution, by reducing dependence on electricity and other fuels for heating.

At the same meeting, the Government also gave consent for the International Agreement with the European Union for participation in the “EU Roam Like Home” area, a necessary step for the full implementation of European roaming legislation.

Also, the request of the Kosovo Forestry Agency for the leasing of an area for the extraction and processing of limestone was approved, with a 15-year term. The list of approved acts also includes the Draft Regulation on recruitment procedures for firefighters, the decision to transfer to the Ministry of Justice a plot of about 30 ares owned by the Forestry Enterprise in Prizren, as well as the Framework for Building Digital Capacities in the central administration.

After the conclusion of the public consultation phase, the Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, announced the signing of the Internal Regulation for the Protection of Personal Data.

The new document fulfills an obligation arising from the legal framework in force and sets technical and organizational rules for the processing of personal data of MAPL employees, he emphasized.

Krasniqi stated that with this action, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to implementing legal obligations, protecting data, increasing information security, institutional transparency, and respecting the privacy of officials and citizens.

During Wednesday’s Council of Ministers meeting, Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari and Defense Minister Ermal Nufi announced several important decisions.

Lamallari highlighted that one key decision involves the approval of a comprehensive support package for the families of State Police employees who lose their lives or are injured while on duty.

He said the government cabinet recognized the need to clearly define the measures, procedures, and rules for the economic and financial treatment of these categories.

The package provides immediate assistance up to the value of 10 gross monthly salaries for a deceased officer, along with an additional family pension.

Children of fallen officers will also receive full educational scholarships for both pre-university and university systems.

Lamallari added that the decision also addresses the housing issue by granting free housing to family members, spouses, and minors.

These dwellings will be provided by the National Housing Entity, from projects overseen by the Investment Corporation, or from real estate seized from organized crime activities.

Another relief for family members will be priority employment.

The minister also announced another decision regarding joint border crossing points with North Macedonia.

This project aims to carry out joint activities between border authorities to significantly ease the movement of passengers, vehicles, and trucks.

“We see it as a way to increase tourism quality and strengthen the economy,” Lamallari said, explaining that the testing phase before parliamentary ratification will be used to simplify the practical crossing of citizens and goods.

For his part, Minister Nufi confirmed that the commitment to send Albanian staff officers to Gaza will be approved next week.

Referring to an assessment of the situation there, he assured that Albania will be part of these forces. As for the NATO Summit, Nufi clarified that the decision to hold it is made by the leaders of member countries, and that organizing such an event in Albania could potentially take place in 2027, but the details have not yet been determined.
