Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), declared during the protest held in Skopje in support of the liberators that the Albanian people cannot convict those who fought for their liberation.

According to him, the protests and activities in support of the liberators will extend throughout Kosovo, as well as in the areas of Macedonia where Albanians live.

“Today’s gathering at Skanderbeg Square is only the first step. Albanians in Macedonia, together with the Albanians of Kosovo, will express their dissatisfaction and revolt, because liberators cannot be convicted in the name of the Albanian people,” Ahmeti said.

He stressed that this issue should never have started since the publication of the act, which he described as shameful and linked to Dick Marty.

Ahmeti said that in the face of attempts to smear the entire Albanian people, a major institutional commitment is needed. According to him, the institutions of Kosovo and Albania must carry out strong diplomatic activities to explain the entire situation to European capitals that finance the Special Court, and to achieve the declaration of the liberators as innocent.

Ali Ahmeti, kryetar i BDI-së, deklaroi gjatë protestës së zhvilluar në Shkup në mbështetje të çlirimtarëve se populli shqiptar nuk mund të dënojë ata që luftuan për çlirimin e tij.

Sipas tij, protestat dhe aktivitetet në mbështetje të çlirimtarëve do të shtrihen në të gjithë Kosovën, si dhe në hapësirat e Maqedonisë ku jetojnë shqiptarë.

“Tubimi i sotëm në Sheshin Skënderbeu është vetëm hapi i parë. Shqiptarët në Maqedoni, së bashku me shqiptarët e Kosovës, do të shprehin pakënaqësinë dhe revoltën e tyre, sepse çlirimtarët nuk mund të dënohen në emër të popullit shqiptar”, u shpreh Ahmeti.

Ai theksoi se kjo çështje nuk duhej të kishte nisur që nga publikimi i aktit të cilin e cilësoi si të turpshëm dhe që lidhet me Dik Marti.

Ahmeti tha se përballë përpjekjeve për të njollosur të gjithë popullin shqiptar nevojitet angazhim i madh institucional. Sipas tij, institucionet e Kosovës dhe Shqipërisë duhet të zhvillojnë aktivitete të fuqishme diplomatike për t’ua shpjeguar kancelarive evropiane, të cilat financojnë Gjykatën Speciale, të gjithë situatën dhe për të arritur shpalljen e çlirimtarëve si të pafajshëm.

Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration, has called for a popular referendum to be organized in Kosovo on the decision of the Specialist Chambers regarding former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

He stressed that the people of Kosovo should have the opportunity to express their position on the matter.

According to Ahmeti, the decision was made in the name of the people of Kosovo, so it would be natural for the people themselves to speak through a referendum.

He added that the outcome of such a popular consultation should be binding on the Specialist Chambers, which were established by the Assembly of Kosovo.

The DUI leader called on Kosovo authorities to take official steps to secure the release of the former KLA leaders from detention in The Hague.

Ahmeti suggested that the four defendants remain in their homes until the Appeals Chamber issues its final decision. According to him, this could be carried out under the supervision and guarantees of Kosovo’s Police and state institutions.

He said Kosovo should also seek support from the countries that backed and financed the Specialist Chambers in order to find a solution in the case of the four KLA members.

Speaking about Kosovo’s next president, the DUI chairman said that the president should use all the opportunities offered by the legal system to pardon Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, who were sentenced by the Specialist Court to a total of 81 years in prison.

Ahmeti called for calm and unity, while expressing support for civic and peaceful protests. He urged political forces to find a common formula and establish a unified position. He stressed that the interests and will of Kosovo’s citizens must come before any party differences.

Kreu i Bashkimit Demokratik për Integrim, Ali Ahmeti, ka kërkuar që në Kosovë të organizohet një referendum popullor lidhur me vendimin e Dhomave të Specializuara ndaj ish-drejtuesve të Ushtrisë Çlirimtare të Kosovës.

Ai theksoi se banorët e Kosovës duhet të kenë mundësi të shprehin qëndrimin e tyre mbi këtë çështje.

Sipas Ahmetit, vendimi u mor në emër të popullit të Kosovës, prandaj do të ishte e natyrshme që pikërisht populli të flasë përmes një referendumi.

Ai shtoi se përfundimi i një konsultimi të tillë popullor duhet të jetë i detyrueshëm për Dhomat e Specializuara, të cilat u krijuan nga Kuvendi i Kosovës.

Lideri i BDI-së u bëri thirrje autoriteteve kosovare që të ndërmarrin hapa zyrtarë për nxjerrjen e ish-krerëve të UÇK-së nga paraburgimi në Hagë.

Ahmeti sugjeroi që katër të akuzuarit të qëndrojnë në banesat e tyre deri në dhënien e vendimit përfundimtar nga ana e Apelit. Kjo, sipas tij, mund të realizohet nën mbikëqyrjen dhe garancitë e Policisë dhe shtetit të Kosovës.

Ai u shpreh se Kosova duhet t’u kërkojë mbështetje edhe shteteve që kanë përkrahur dhe financuar Dhomat e Specializuara, për të gjetur një zgjidhje në rastin e katër anëtarëve të UÇK-së.

Duke folur për presidentin e ardhshëm të Kosovës, kryetari i BDI-së tha se ai duhet të përdorë të gjitha mundësitë që i ofron sistemi juridik për t’i falur Hashim Thaçin, Kadri Veselin, Jakup Krasniqin dhe Rexhep Selimin, të cilët u dënuan nga Gjykata Speciale me një total prej 81 vitesh burg.

Ahmeti bëri thirrje për qetësi dhe bashkim, ndërsa shprehu përkrahje për protestat qytetare dhe paqësore. Ai i ftoi forcat politike të gjejnë një formulë të përbashkët dhe të krijojnë një qëndrim të unifikuar. Theksoi se interesi dhe vullneti i qytetarëve të Kosovës duhet të jenë mbi çdo dallim partiak.

Ali Ahmeti, chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration, held a meeting today with the Presidency of the General Council, namely the Central Presidency of the DUI. The meeting addressed the country’s current political situation and measures to strengthen the party’s organizational and structural capacities.

According to the DUI’s statement, particular attention was also paid to the decision issued on September 16, 2026, by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

The Central Presidency stressed that, at a time when Albanians have focused their attention on The Hague and the decision concerning KLA members, it is necessary to recall how this process began, the claims on which it was built, and what remains of them after all these years.

According to the Presidency’s assessment, the initiative that led to the establishment of the Specialist Court was based on Dick Marty’s report and serious allegations of organ trafficking. However, after many years of investigations and the development of the judicial process, none of the allegations for which the Court was established was proven. In the absence of evidence, according to the DUI, a case was built against Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli and Rexhep Selimi.

The statement reiterates that the KLA’s war aimed to liberate Kosovo and secure its freedom, while its history and the sacrifice of a people for freedom cannot be put on trial through a contrived judicial process.

The DUI described the protests organized after the verdict was announced as a legitimate form of civic expression in a democratic society. According to the party, no democratic state and no democratic constitution in the world prohibits the right to protest.

Citizens have the right to express their positions and grievances through peaceful, nonviolent protests. At the conclusion of the statement, the DUI called for the history of Kosovo’s liberation war not to be distorted.

Ali Ahmeti, kryetar i Bashkimit Demokratik për Integrim, zhvilloi sot një mbledhje me Kryesinë e Këshillit të Përgjithshëm, përkatësisht Kryesinë Qendrore të BDI-së. Në takim u shqyrtuan situata aktuale politike në vend dhe masat për fuqizimin e kapaciteteve organizative e strukturore të partisë.

Sipas vlerësimit të Kryesisë, nisma që solli krijimin e Gjykatës Speciale u mbështet te raporti i Dick Marty-t dhe te akuzat e rënda për trafikim organesh. Megjithatë, pas shumë vitesh hetimesh dhe zhvillimi të procesit gjyqësor, asnjë prej pretendimeve për të cilat u ngrit kjo Gjykatë nuk u provua. Në mungesë të fakteve, sipas BDI-së, u ndërtua një proces kundër Hashim Thaçit, Jakup Krasniqit, Kadri Veselit dhe Rexhep Selimit.

Në njoftim ritheksohet se lufta e UÇK-së kishte për qëllim çlirimin dhe lirinë e Kosovës, ndërsa historia e saj dhe sakrifica e një populli për liri nuk mund të vihen në gjykim përmes një procesi gjyqësor të sajuar.

BDI-ja i cilësoi protestat e organizuara pas shpalljes së aktgjykimit si një mënyrë legjitime të shprehjes qytetare në një shoqëri demokratike. Sipas partisë, asnjë shtet demokratik dhe asnjë kushtetutë demokratike në botë nuk e ndalon të drejtën për të protestuar.

Qytetarëve u takon e drejta që qëndrimet dhe pakënaqësitë e tyre t’i shprehin me protesta paqësore dhe pa dhunë. Në përfundim të njoftimit, BDI-ja bëri thirrje që të mos lejohet tjetërsimi i historisë së luftës çlirimtare të Kosovës.

He appealed to citizens to remain calm and united, warning that tensions, divisions or any undermining of the UÇK’s wartime legacy must not be allowed.

“Today’s ruling against Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli and Rexhep Selimi is a ruling that I consider unjust and deeply disappointing,” Ahmeti wrote.

Ahmeti also recalled earlier allegations of organ trafficking, which, he said, were not included as charges in the proceedings.

He also stated that the Special Court had acquitted the defendants of crimes against humanity, while emphasizing that the ruling also mentioned the fact that the UÇK’s objective was Kosovo’s independence.

“The proceedings do not end here. We believe that the defense will continue the legal battle before the Appeals Court, challenging the findings of the first instance and seeking justice to the end,” he said.

In his response, Ahmeti stressed that the UÇK’s war was a struggle for freedom and that Kosovo’s past cannot be changed.

“The UÇK’s war was a war for freedom. Kosovo’s history cannot be rewritten, and the sacrifice of an entire people cannot be placed in the defendants’ dock,” Ahmeti wrote.

“Procesi nuk përfundon këtu. Besojmë se mbrojtja do ta vazhdojë betejën juridike në Gjykatën e Apelit, duke kundërshtuar gjetjet e shkallës së parë dhe duke kërkuar drejtësi deri në fund”, ka deklaruar ai.

Në reagimin e tij, Ahmeti ka theksuar se lufta e UÇK-së ishte një përpjekje për liri dhe se e kaluara e Kosovës nuk mund të ndryshohet.

“Lufta e UÇK-së ishte luftë për liri. Historia e Kosovës nuk mund të rishkruhet dhe sakrifica e një populli të tërë nuk mund të vihet në bankën e të akuzuarve”, ka shkruar Ahmeti.

I consider today’s verdict against Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli and Rexhep Selimi to be unjust and deeply disappointing.

In the face of this grave situation, I call on everyone to show restraint and unity. We must not allow any attempt to incite tensions, division or damage the image of the Kosovo people’s liberation war.

The KLA was created in response to oppression and fought for Kosovo’s liberation. Allegations of organ trafficking, which for years weighed heavily on the KLA and its leaders, did not result in charges in this process. Furthermore, today the Court acquitted the defendants of crimes against humanity and stressed that the KLA’s aim had been Kosovo’s independence, an objective that was achieved. These facts must be remembered whenever anyone tries to portray the KLA as a criminal enterprise.

Thaçi, Krasniqi, Veseli and Selimi were accused of responsibility for a number of alleged crimes during 1998-1999. We believe that these accusations, too, will be dismissed as the judicial process continues, just as the previous allegations of organ trafficking did not materialise.

This case does not end with today’s verdict. The defence is expected to continue its legal battle before the Court of Appeal, where it will challenge the first-instance findings and seek justice to the very end.

The KLA’s war was a war for freedom. Kosovo’s history cannot be changed, and the sacrifice of an entire people cannot be put in the dock.

With faith in justice, the battle continues on appeal!

Përballë kësaj situate të rëndë, u bëj thirrje të gjithëve për maturi dhe unitet. Nuk duhet të lejojmë asnjë përpjekje për të nxitur tensione, përçarje apo për të dëmtuar imazhin e luftës çlirimtare të popullit të Kosovës.

UÇK-ja u krijua si reagim ndaj shtypjes dhe luftoi për çlirimin e Kosovës. Pretendimet për trafikim organesh, të cilat për vite me radhë rënduan mbi UÇK-në dhe drejtuesit e saj, nuk u kthyen në akuza në këtë proces. Gjithashtu, sot Gjykata i shpalli të pafajshëm të akuzuarit për krime kundër njerëzimit dhe theksoi se synimi i UÇK-së kishte qenë pavarësia e Kosovës, objektiv që u realizua. Këto fakte duhet të mbahen mend sa herë që dikush përpiqet ta portretizojë UÇK-në si një ndërmarrje kriminale.

Thaçi, Krasniqi, Veseli dhe Selimi akuzoheshin për përgjegjësi në një sërë krimesh të pretenduara gjatë viteve 1998-1999. Besojmë se edhe këto akuza do të rrëzohen gjatë vazhdimit të procesit gjyqësor, njësoj siç nuk u materializuan pretendimet e mëparshme për trafikim organesh.

Kjo çështje nuk mbyllet me vendimin e sotëm. Mbrojtja pritet ta vijojë betejën juridike në Gjykatën e Apelit, ku do të kundërshtojë gjetjet e shkallës së parë dhe do të kërkojë drejtësi deri në fund.

Lufta e UÇK-së ishte një luftë për liri. Historia e Kosovës nuk mund të ndryshohet dhe sakrifica e një populli të tërë nuk mund të vendoset në bankën e të akuzuarve.
