Alban Xhelili, a former MP for the Socialist Party, has been appointed director of Albanian Post in Durrës. The appointment of the former MP to head the post office comes after the arrest of the former heads of the branch and its finance department. The arrests followed allegations of theft and abuse involving the post office’s funds.

The arrests came after an inspection was carried out at the branch, during which discrepancies were identified in the reconciliation of funds and financial reports. It is suspected that €700,000 was missing from the post office’s funds, although the possibility that the amount may be higher has not been ruled out.
