Fushë-Arrëz residents will decide for themselves through a popular referendum whether they oppose the merger of their municipality.

Mayor Hil Curri announced this position, stressing that no discussions have yet been held with residents about the proposal, a move that he said would accelerate the abandonment of this northern town.

Curri argued that the Municipality of Fushë-Arrëz is not a financial burden on the government, as several heavy industry companies operate within its territory and their tax revenues are paid directly into the budget of the municipality he leads.

The Democratic Party mayor warned that the battle over this issue would go as far as the international courts. Meanwhile, local residents, together with the diaspora, are preparing to take to the streets in protest.

Lawyer Spartak Ngjela has spoken out against the initiative to open the Serbian Consulate in Shkodër, which he defined as an anti-national act.

He stated that this request can only be supported by “Belgrade’s agents” and called for a reaction from Albanian institutions and SPAK.

In his full post, Ngjela writes:

“The request to establish the international institution, the Consulate of Serbia, in Shkodër can only be accepted in Albania by agents of Belgrade, but under no circumstances by Albanian law and Parliament.

It is known who the person proposing it is.

So?

It remains to be seen how Albanians and SPAK will act in the face of such an anti-national act.”

Gazmend Muhaxheri, who governs Peja and serves on the LDK Presidency, has commented on Lumir Abdixhiku’s statement that he had “spared him the shame over his remarks about Milošević.” He described it as the personal stance of his political opponent.

Muhaxheri stressed that he achieved electoral success in his city before Abdixhiku had taken over as party leader. “I secured my first term as mayor without Lumir’s support. In fact, I won at a time when even Isa Mustafa did not believe I could,” he said.

In a parallel development, the LDK’s local branch in Peja, led by Muhaxheri, had previously called on Abdixhiku last month to resign as a moral gesture. The request followed the party’s result in the June 7 elections.

This Friday, the Administrative Court decided not to accept the request of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, that the Media Association for Rights be included as a main party in the judicial process.

According to the decision of judge Hazbi Balliu, the court has assessed that Erion Veliaj has an indirect interest and not a direct interest in this case.

Also, the court decided to reject Erion Veliaj’s lawsuit against Ols Dado. The decision comes after reviewing the requests of the parties in this judicial process.

Albania’s Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, described as scandalous and intolerable the position of Serbian minister Snezhana Paunović, who stated that, had she been in Milošević’s place, she would have carried out ethnic cleansing in Kosovo.

During today’s press conference, Nufi stressed that there was no need for further comment on the nature of the statement, other than to define it as scandalous and unacceptable. He recalled that both the prime minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had responded to the matter.

Nufi said that, in his capacity as minister of defense, he fully supports the prime minister’s position. According to him, the reactions seen within Serbia also demonstrate that reasonable people there represent the European approach that the Albanian side wants to see from Serbia.

He emphasized that rhetoric of this nature must be condemned and cannot be accepted, adding that both support for and silence in the face of such a statement are equally deadly, A2 reports.

Bajram Gecaj, a member of the party, reacted to “Bota sot” by welcoming the step taken by the Rahovec branch. He described it as a correct move and one in the right direction.

Several residents joined the protest, expressing their concern over the increase in violent incidents and the use of weapons in public spaces.
