On the anniversary of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said that the document established peace, dialogue and equality as the foundations of a stable society. According to him, the task today is to further develop the agreement’s lessons and transform them into lasting standards of democracy and coexistence.

Gashi stressed that marking this anniversary brings to mind one of the most significant moments in the contemporary history of the Republic of North Macedonia. The agreement, he said, represented a political and institutional response to a crisis that required responsibility, dialogue and a vision for the future.

According to the Parliament Speaker, above all, the document established peace, equality and dialogue as the foundations for building a stable society. Twenty-five years later, its value should be assessed beyond political divisions and day-to-day interpretations.

Gashi’s statement said that the Ohrid Agreement remains one of the main pillars of the country’s constitutional and institutional architecture. He underlined that the current responsibility is to turn its lessons into lasting norms of coexistence and democracy.

The Republic of North Macedonia is the common home of all its citizens, Gashi stressed. He added that the country’s strength does not stem from the differences that divide its citizens, but from the ability to transform them into a shared value.

After a quarter of a century, according to the Parliament Speaker, the question should no longer be only what has been achieved, but what remains to be done to ensure that future generations inherit the country that is desired.

Gashi called for this anniversary to serve as a shared commitment, with today’s political generation and institutions protecting peace through dialogue, strengthening equality and building coexistence through concrete action. He urged that every future generation inherit the Ohrid Agreement not only as a historic turning point, but also as a living value of the state, while citizens, according to him, are the ones with the power to put it into practice every day.

Me rastin e përvjetorit të Marrëveshjes Kornizë të Ohrit, kryetari i Kuvendit, Afrim Gashi, deklaroi se ky dokument e vendosi paqen, dialogun dhe barazinë në bazën e një shoqërie të qëndrueshme. Sipas tij, detyra e sotme është që mësimet e marrëveshjes të zhvillohen më tej dhe të shndërrohen në standarde të qëndrueshme të demokracisë dhe bashkëjetesës.

Gashi theksoi se shënimi i këtij përvjetori sjell në kujtesë një nga çastet më domethënëse të historisë bashkëkohore të Republikës së Maqedonisë së Veriut. Marrëveshja, siç tha ai, përfaqësoi një përgjigje politike dhe institucionale ndaj një krize që kërkonte përgjegjësi, dialog dhe një vizion për të ardhmen.

Sipas kryeparlamentarit, dokumenti vendosi mbi të gjitha paqen, barazinë dhe dialogun si themele për krijimin e një shoqërie të qëndrueshme. Njëzet e pesë vjet më pas, vlera e tij duhet të vlerësohet përtej ndasive politike dhe interpretimeve të përditshme.

Në kumtesën e Gashit thuhet se Marrëveshja e Ohrit vazhdon të jetë një prej shtyllave kryesore të arkitekturës kushtetuese dhe institucionale të shtetit. Ai nënvizoi se përgjegjësia e tanishme është që mësimet e saj të kthehen në norma të qëndrueshme të bashkëjetesës dhe demokracisë.

Republika e Maqedonisë së Veriut është shtëpia e përbashkët e të gjithë qytetarëve të saj, theksoi Gashi. Ai shtoi se forca e vendit nuk buron nga dallimet që i ndajnë qytetarët, por nga aftësia për t’i shndërruar ato në një vlerë të përbashkët.

Pas një çerek shekulli, sipas kryetarit të Kuvendit, pyetja nuk duhet të jetë më vetëm se çfarë është arritur, por çfarë mbetet për t’u bërë, në mënyrë që brezave të ardhshëm t’u lihet shteti i dëshiruar.

Gashi bëri thirrje që ky përvjetor të shërbejë si një zotim i përbashkët, ku brezi i sotëm politik dhe institucionet ta mbrojnë paqen përmes dialogut, ta fuqizojnë barazinë dhe ta ndërtojnë bashkëjetesën me veprime konkrete. Ai porositi që çdo brez i ardhshëm ta trashëgojë Marrëveshjen e Ohrit jo vetëm si një pikë kthese historike, por edhe si një vlerë të gjallë të shtetit, ndërsa qytetarët, sipas tij, janë ata që kanë fuqinë ta jetësojnë atë çdo ditë.

North Macedonia’s Assembly Speaker, Afrim Gashi, announced that he had signed the decision to organize snap elections for mayor of the Municipality of Brvenica.

Gashi announced that the decision was signed today, in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Code and the legislation in force, while the elections will be held on October 18, 2026.

He called on the State Election Commission, the Brvenica Municipal Election Commission and all institutions involved in implementing the decision to conduct the electoral process professionally and impartially, with full respect for the law and procedures.

Gashi urged the candidates and political entities to conduct a dignified campaign, competing through programs, ideas and a vision for the municipality’s development, rather than through divisive rhetoric or actions that undermine citizens’ trust in the democratic process.

At the same time, he invited the citizens of Brvenica to turn out to vote and responsibly exercise their democratic right. According to him, their participation will help ensure a peaceful, orderly and credible process, through which the municipality’s future direction will be determined.

Gashi’s statement also said that he was convinced these elections would demonstrate the democratic maturity of our institutions and citizens. /Telegrafi/

Kryetari i Kuvendit të Maqedonisë së Veriut, Afrim Gashi, bëri të ditur se ka firmosur vendimin për organizimin e zgjedhjeve të jashtëzakonshme për Kryetar të Komunës së Bërvenicës.

Gashi njoftoi se vendimi është nënshkruar sot, në pajtim me Kushtetutën, Kodin Zgjedhor dhe legjislacionin në fuqi, ndërsa zgjedhjet do të zhvillohen më 18 tetor 2026.

Ai kërkoi nga Komisioni Shtetëror i Zgjedhjeve, Komisioni Komunal i Zgjedhjeve i Bërvenicës dhe të gjitha institucionet e përfshira në zbatimin e vendimit që procesi zgjedhor të realizohet në mënyrë profesionale, të paanshme dhe me respektim të plotë të ligjit e procedurave.

Kandidatëve dhe subjekteve politike Gashi u bëri thirrje të zhvillojnë një fushatë dinjitoze, duke konkurruar përmes programeve, ideve dhe vizionit për zhvillimin e komunës, në vend të gjuhës përçarëse ose veprimeve që dëmtojnë besimin e qytetarëve te procesi demokratik.

Njëkohësisht, ai ftoi qytetarët e Bërvenicës të dalin në zgjedhje dhe ta përdorin me përgjegjësi të drejtën e tyre demokratike. Sipas tij, pjesëmarrja e tyre do të ndihmojë në zhvillimin e një procesi të qetë, të rregullt dhe kredibil, nga i cili do të përcaktohet drejtimi i ardhshëm i komunës.

Përcolla qëndrimin se përballja me çdo formë diskriminimi dhe me gjuhën e urrejtjes përbën në të njëjtën kohë mbrojtje të dinjitetit njerëzor, lirisë së besimit dhe parimeve demokratike. Dialogu, toleranca dhe respekti reciprok mbeten rruga e vetme drejt ndërtimit të paqes dhe mirëkuptimit mes njerëzve”, ka deklaruar kryetari i Kuvendit, Afrim Gashi.

Gashi rejected claims that an attempt was being made to push the law through covertly, stressing that it had been drafted over two years with the involvement of experts. He explained that the document had been processed through the proper procedure and had also undergone public debate.

According to the Parliament Speaker, his aim is to create room for discussions among parliamentary groups so that such an important law, which has been awaited for 22 years, can be adopted.

He said all political mechanisms should be used to establish that this law is necessary at this time. Gashi acknowledged that the legislation may contain shortcomings but stressed that, for now, these are merely being presumed. In conclusion, he reiterated his position that the country should have a law on fair and adequate representation, as it is far better to have a legal framework than none at all.

Gashi hodhi poshtë pretendimet se po bëhet përpjekje për kontrabandimin e ligjit, duke theksuar se për hartimin e tij është punuar për dy vjet me përfshirjen e ekspertëve. Ai sqaroi se dokumenti është proceduar në mënyrë të rregullt dhe ka kaluar edhe në debat publik.

Sipas kryetarit të Kuvendit, synimi i tij është të krijojë hapësirë për diskutime ndërmjet grupeve parlamentare, në mënyrë që të miratohet një ligj kaq i rëndësishëm, i cili pritet prej 22 vitesh.

President of the Republic of India Draupadi Murmu paid an official visit to the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia. This marks the first visit by an Indian president to the country and represents an important moment in advancing relations and expanding bilateral cooperation.

At the Assembly, Murmu was welcomed by its speaker, Afrim Gashi, with whom she held a one-on-one meeting. The president then signed the guest book, expressing her appreciation for the hospitality and praising the historic, cultural and friendly ties between the two peoples, the Assembly’s press service said.

During a plenary session, Draupadi Murmu also addressed lawmakers and citizens. She described democracy as the shared value linking India and North Macedonia, while portraying parliaments as guarantors of civil liberties and an expression of the national conscience.

Addressing relations between the two countries, Murmu said: “We do not regard North Macedonia as a distant country, but as an important pillar in building a sustainable, multipolar and prosperous global future.”

Në Kuvend, Murmu u mirëprit nga kryetari i këtij institucioni, Afrim Gashi, me të cilin pati një takim tet-a-tet. Murmu njoftoi se gjatë qëndrimit të saj do të bëjë homazhe për Nënë Terezën. Ajo bëri të ditur gjithashtu se popullit të Maqedonisë së Veriut do t’i dhurojë një bust të Mahatma Gandhit, duke theksuar se idealet e tij përfaqësojnë vlera që bashkojnë të gjithë.

Presidentja vuri theksin te roli i diplomacisë parlamentare, nevoja për intensifikimin e kontakteve ndërmjet dy vendeve dhe shtimi i përfaqësimit të grave në jetën demokratike.

Duke sjellë në vëmendje filozofinë e lashtë indiane “E gjithë bota është një familje”, Murmu bëri thirrje për krijimin e urave të mirëkuptimit dhe bashkëpunimit, veçanërisht në një periudhë kur bota po përballet me sfida dhe përçarje të shumta.
