At the memorial of the National Honor, former collaborators and fellow fighters of Adem Demaçi paid tribute on the eighth anniversary of his death.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Acting President Albulena Haxhiu were present early in the morning to honor his memory.

Elmi Reçica, a deputy of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, described Demaçi as one of the main pillars of the Albanian national movement and the spiritual guide of the generation that laid the foundations of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

He stressed that in the role of political representative of the KLA, Demaçi embodied the hopes and aspirations of Kosovo’s citizens at the most critical moments of national history, relying on his foresight, weight, and unique voice.

His life and commitment, according to Reçica, stand as a monument of unparalleled resistance, sacrifice for liberation, and absolute love for the country.

“On the 8th anniversary of his passing into eternity, we remember him with respect, pride, and gratitude. Eternal glory to the National Honor, Adem Demaçi,” Reçica expressed.

On the anniversary of Adem Demaçi’s death, acting President Albulena Haxhiu remembered him as one of the strongest pillars of resistance for Kosovo’s liberation.

Together with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, she participated in a commemorative ceremony to honor the legacy of a man who for decades remained the embodiment of Albanian political resistance.

Haxhiu underlined that Demaçi’s life path spanned some of the most decisive moments in the country’s history.

In a social media post, she wrote that he was at the forefront of political opposition in an era when the aspiration for freedom was punished with imprisonment, became the voice of Albanians’ rights during their oppression, and remained active in the public sphere even after Kosovo entered a new historical phase.

She pointed out that the same writer who fought phenomena like blood feuds was also the activist who resisted subjugation and, after liberation, strongly insisted that the freedom gained not be stained by acts of revenge.

Speaking about the generation he belonged to, Haxhiu stressed that Baca Adem deeply felt the denial of basic rights for Albanians in the former Yugoslavia. Because he refused to remain silent, he paid a heavy price: he spent 28 years of his life behind bars. Yet, neither imprisonment nor constant persecution could divert him from his convictions and the cause of Kosovo’s freedom.

She further recalled that his name had gained international renown long before Kosovo won independence. Amnesty International defended him as a prisoner of conscience, there were calls in the U.S. Senate for his release, while the European Parliament honored his contribution against an oppressive regime with the Sakharov Prize.

At the end of the post, Haxhiu described Demaçi’s figure as someone who did not soften his words to please the masses. He was sincere, often blunt, and always resolute in defending what he believed. Precisely for this, his legacy remains inseparable from the history of Albanian political thought and resistance in Kosovo. Kurti assessed that Adem Demaçi embodied indomitability and eternity. Despite spending 28 years behind bars, he never wavered from his path and convictions. According to the acting prime minister, Baca Adem possessed the dialectic of existence because he did not fear the end. He oscillated between freedom and the cell, transforming suffering into energy and turning violence into a force of resistance, which made him immortal. He, Kurti expressed, “had killed death.”

Teksa shënohet tetëvjetori i ndarjes nga jeta, kryeministri në detyrë Albin Kurti zhvilloi homazhe për të nderuar figurën e Adem Demaçit, të cilin e cilësoi si mishërim të rezistencës kundër shtypjes së regjimit jugosllav dhe serb.

Përmes një postimi publik, Kurti theksoi se 28 vite burgim nuk e thyen dot Demaçin, i cili mbetet një model i qëndresës së palëkundur dhe një burim i pashtershëm frymëzimi për brezat e ardhshëm. Duke e krahasuar me figurën globale të Nelson Mandelës, ai e quajti atë “Mandela i shqiptarëve dhe i Evropës” dhe nënvizoi se trashëgimia e tij në sferat politike, kulturore dhe historike vijon të jetë busull për shoqërinë.

Kurti vlerësoi se Adem Demaçi mishëronte pathyeshmërinë dhe amshimin. Pavarësisht se kaloi 28 vite pas hekurave, ai nuk u tund asnjëherë nga udha dhe bindjet e tij. Sipas kryeministrit në detyrë, Baca Adem e zotëronte dialektikën e ekzistencës sepse nuk kishte frikë prej fundit. Ai luhatej midis lirisë dhe qelisë, duke i transmformuar vuajtjet në energji e duke e kthyer dhunën në forcë rezistence, çka e bëri të pavdekshëm. Ai, shprehet Kurti, “kishte vrarë vdekjen”.

Edhe pse Baca Adem nuk jeton më fizikisht, angazhimi i tij jetësor vazhdon të na shërbejë si udhërrëfyes e motivim. Postimi mbyllet me nderimin për jetën, veprën dhe tërësinë e pasurisë së tij trashëgimore.
