The airline Wizz Air has taken a significant step by establishing its base at “Adem Jashari” International Airport in Prishtina, a move welcomed by acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who sees it as a clear signal of the country’s rising profile in the eyes of foreign investors.

Commenting on this development, Kurti stressed that the presence of such an airline operator confirms that Kosovo is increasingly seen as a safe and attractive destination for international businesses. For the government, adding air routes is not just a matter of comfort, but a strategic priority with a direct impact on economic progress, strengthening infrastructure, and bringing the diaspora closer to the homeland, reports “Bota sot”.

In his full statement, the acting head of the executive described the establishment of Wizz Air’s base as good news, along with the new Airbus A321neo aircraft that offers 239 seats. According to him, such investments strengthen the economy, create new connecting bridges, facilitate the movement of citizens, and bring Kosovars closer to Europe, making the flow of people and goods easier.

Asked by the media whether consultations with the leaders of the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo will continue for the establishment of new institutions, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti chose not to give a direct answer.

“We are here for energy-related issues,” Kurti briefly stated, without offering any details on whether another invitation would be sent to political entities.

This statement was made during the inauguration of the start of works for the Solar Park in Rahovec.

Earlier, as part of talks on forming the new executive and legislature after the snap elections for the eleventh legislature, Kurti received on July 10 at the headquarters of the Assembly of Kosovo, separately, the chairmen of PDK and LDK.

The meetings took place after the Central Election Commission approved the final election results on July 8. According to these data, the Vetëvendosje Movement came first with 47.13% of the votes, securing 53 seats in the Assembly. The Democratic Party of Kosovo ranks second with 19.44% or 22 deputies, while the Democratic League of Kosovo won 18 seats with 16.69%. The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo received 6.74%, giving it seven mandates, while non-majority communities hold a total of 20 seats.

At the 9th Electoral Congress of the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Kosovo (BSPK), acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that workers are the fundamental pillar of the country’s development, while emphasizing that the Government’s policies are focused on creating a fairer labor market.

During his address to those present, he spoke about the issue of the minimum wage, recalling that it had remained unchanged for more than a decade.

“Since 2011, the minimum wage had remained at 130 euros and 170 euros, depending on the worker’s age, specifically whether you are older or younger than 35. This long period of stagnation created serious difficulties for private sector workers,” Kurti said.

According to him, during the government he leads, the minimum wage has been increased in several stages.

“Meanwhile, now the minimum wage has been raised, because it has increased gradually and continuously: from 130 euros and 170 euros, initially during our government to 250 euros, then to 350 euros, then to 425 euros, and from July 1 this year, the minimum wage is 500 euros gross. Around 150,000 private sector workers benefit from this increase,” he said.

Kurti assessed that this development clearly shows that, after a decade-long period of stagnation, the minimum wage has tripled within a significantly shorter period of time.

“This clearly shows that, after a decade of stagnation, within a much shorter period the minimum wage has been tripled. It is clear evidence that economic growth must always be accompanied by increased well-being for citizens and by an improvement in workers’ conditions,” he declared.

Another Government priority, according to Kurti, remains strengthening the institutional mechanisms that ensure the implementation of labor law, as he mentioned that the Central Labor Inspectorate is being reinforced.

“In this regard, the Central Labor Inspectorate is being strengthened. Just a few weeks ago, in June 2026, the competition was opened for 39 new inspectors, of whom 24 are for occupational safety and health and 15 for labor relations,” he said.

He also announced that work is proceeding in parallel on legal changes in the field of labor.

“We are working on improving the legal framework in the field of labor, with the aim that it guarantees fairer representation of workers, expansion of social dialogue, and a more sustainable balance between employees and employers,” Kurti declared.

In his address, the acting prime minister also said that active employment schemes have been established through the Employment Agency of the Republic of Kosovo, including the “Superpuna” program and other forms of support for businesses, with the aim of opening new jobs and encouraging employment for young people, women, and other categories that face difficulties in the labor market.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said the aim of the institutions is the full modernization of Kosovo’s inspection system.

While presenting the annual inspections report for 2025, he said the new model will be based on the risk level of businesses, while entities that repeatedly violate the law will face stricter measures, including fines and criminal charges.

“The changes we have initiated in the inspection system aim at full modernization and increasing the capacity of Kosovo’s inspectorate at both the central and local levels. The main objective is defined by law: protecting the public interest, including public health, public safety and the environment. One of the important parts of the reform is a new approach based on different levels of risk created by the various inspection entities. For example, a business engaged in hazardous activities or one that has an impact on a larger number of consumers should, in principle, be inspected more often than other businesses… The reform requires a cooperative approach aimed at reducing as much as possible the administrative burden on the private sector. For example, through the checklist published by each inspectorate, businesses will have the opportunity to know exactly the legal criteria on the basis of which they will be inspected,” he said.

Kosovo’s Inspector General, Lyra Osmani, underlined that another priority remains the digitalization of inspection processes in the country.

She assessed that progress was made during 2025 in implementing the reform of the inspection system.

“The Office of the Inspector General has taken responsibility and led the inspection reform process at the country level, advancing inter-institutional coordination and strengthening the cooperation of all inspection bodies in Kosovo. Our mission is clear: to build a proportional, coordinated and risk assessment-based inspection system that protects the public interest and guarantees safety, health and the environment. At the same time, it reduces the administrative burden for citizens and businesses,” Osmani stressed.

Meanwhile, World Bank Manager for Kosovo and North Macedonia Carole Megevand said inspections, when properly carried out, create favorable conditions for businesses to develop, grow and invest.

“It is very important, because when done properly, inspections create conditions for businesses to develop, grow and invest. They help protect citizens, communities, safety, as well as the environment. But when they are not implemented properly, they can create unnecessary bureaucracy and a perception of unpredictability, which discourages investment and negatively affects economic growth. Therefore, it is very important that they are carried out in the right way. The issue is not whether inspections are important, but how to ensure they create the most favorable environment for private sector development without burdening it with unnecessary administrative measures. I think this is exactly the path we have seen so far in Kosovo – the way the country is moving toward simplifying administrative procedures, while at the same time inspections can make a key contribution to creating a transparent, fair, equal and predictable environment for the private sector,” she concluded.

According to several monitoring non-governmental organizations, the number of inspections increased during 2025, but this was not necessarily accompanied by improvements in law enforcement.

According to them, in many cases the sanctions were not sufficiently preventive, while there were also cases when inspectors’ decisions were not implemented by the inspected entities.

At the opening of today’s government meeting, Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that, nearly 27 and a half years after the Recak Massacre, five former members of the Serbian police have been arrested.

He stressed that the arrests came after a six-month investigation, while at the same time criticizing the lack of action on this case until 2020, when he took office.

“While on the one hand we commend the institutions for the arrest of the suspects, following, as was said, a six-month investigation, we cannot fail to highlight the fact that until 2020 no one dealt with this case. Consequently, out of thousands of cases written by EULEX, not one concerned the Recak Massacre. On the one hand, we have an arrest after a six-month investigation, and on the other we have more than two decades of failure or no efforts whatsoever to prosecute those responsible and zero commitment to justice in relation to this massacre.”

Kurti added that nearly three decades have passed since the war, while witnesses are aging and dying, and therefore, according to him, there must be greater commitment to delivering justice for the massacres.
