Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has reacted following the murder of a 25-year-old woman in Malisheva.

In a post published on Facebook, Haxhiu said that society cannot be safe as long as women do not feel protected even inside their own homes.

She called on the justice institutions to fully investigate and shed light on this serious murder, acting with the responsibility required by such a case.

In her full response, Haxhiu said that the murder of the 25-year-old woman, who was in her 34th week of pregnancy, had caused deep shock.

According to her, violence cannot be concealed or justified through family or marriage. She stressed that when a woman’s life is put at risk, the matter cannot be treated as private, but as a shared responsibility requiring an immediate response from the institutions.

Haxhiu also extended her sincerest condolences to the deceased’s family for their great loss.

Acting President and Vetëvendosje Movement MP Albulena Haxhiu said before the start of the constitutive session that the former opposition parties had not registered the necessary signatures. According to her, had this been done, the session scheduled for the previous evening would have taken place.

Haxhiu said that notice of participation in the session had been given, but the 40 signatures had not been forwarded to Assembly Chair Avni Dehari.

“I am here because the chair called the session. If it had also been called last night, of course I would have come. I do not understand why the signatures were not registered. There are 40 signatures that were not addressed to Avni Dehari, so I do not understand why they were not sent. If their intention was to hold the session, the procedure was very simple. Notice that we would attend the session was given, but that is not enough; the signatures must be registered. I do not understand why this did not happen. The MPs came here and held press conferences, while the claim that the doors were closed to them could have been clarified very easily,” Haxhiu said.

The Assembly of Kosovo has scheduled the continuation of the constitutive session for today, Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. This came after the former opposition parties requested that the session be held yesterday afternoon, arguing that the 30-day constitutional deadline for constituting the Assembly expired at midnight.

In the June 7 elections, the Vetëvendosje Movement secured 53 MPs, the PDK 22, the LDK 18, and the Alliance 7.

“Let us first wait for the certification of the results to take place, and then after the certification of the results there will naturally be meetings with political parties, and we hope to find a consensus so that the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo can elect the president with a five-year mandate and the work and responsibilities we have toward the citizens can continue,” she declared.

Haxhiu stressed that the Assembly must first be constituted and the Government elected.

“Let us constitute the Assembly, let us elect the Government and immediately, therefore, after the constitution of the Assembly, the new Speaker of the Assembly, whoever he or she may be, will have the constitutional right to mandate the candidate for the country’s prime minister.

Asked whether she herself would be a candidate for president, she gave a firm response.

“No, I will not be a candidate for president,” Haxhiu said briefly.

Meanwhile, regarding media reports that Kosovo has not been invited to the NATO Summit, she said that information is still being gathered on the issue.

“We are still receiving information on this; of course, please ask the competent institutions in writing and they will respond,” she added.
