The Kosovo Police have discovered and confiscated a considerable arsenal of weapons, ammunition and military equipment in the villages surrounding Kalludra, in Zubin Potok, Acting Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Sveçla announced.

According to him, the operation was carried out following an intensive investigation by Kosovo’s institutions, while the details were presented at an extraordinary press conference held by the Kosovo Police in Mitrovica.

Sveçla said the arsenal was found in the same area where, in recent weeks, three mass graves containing the remains of 23 people had been discovered.

The acting minister linked the discovery of the weapons and the graves to the extension of state sovereignty in the north, the establishment of law and order, and inter-institutional cooperation.

He stressed that the discovery of the mass graves had once again drawn attention to the scale of the crimes committed during the last war in Kosovo.

According to his statement, in addition to being the site of serious crimes against Albanian civilians, torture and expulsions, northern Kosovo was also used to conceal the bodies of victims.

Sveçla said that Serbia had continually invested in keeping northern Kosovo destabilized and resistant to Kosovo’s security institutions.

He added that, nearly three decades after the end of the war, the families of missing persons continue to wait for the remains of their loved ones to be found. Kosovo, meanwhile, is seeking accountability for all those who took part in crimes, concealed bodies or kept information about the whereabouts of the victims secret.

The remains of 23 people were found at three locations in the area. The remains of 13 people were discovered at the first location, those of four people at the second, and the remains of six people at the third.

During the conference, the Kosovo Police presented the weapons, ammunition and military equipment found and confiscated during operations in the area.
