Delays in establishing functioning institutions are having wide-ranging consequences for Kosovo, both politically and economically. Political analyst Faton Mehmeti believes the situation is weakening the country’s international standing and hampering its development.

In a statement to “Bota Sot,” Mehmeti said the failure to form institutions is causing damage across the board, particularly on the political front. According to him, Kosovo is falling behind in securing new recognitions, gaining inclusion in international forums and participating in new European initiatives.

The political analyst believes the absence of fully constituted institutions is also negatively affecting how Kosovo is perceived by countries that have yet to recognize its independence.

He said that, in the eyes of countries from which recognition is expected, Kosovo appears insecure, unstable and lacking sufficient political maturity. Mehmeti stressed that such an impression reduces the likelihood that these countries will decide to recognize Kosovo, even though the country needs their recognition.

According to Mehmeti, the consequences are even more severe for the economy, as the failure of institutions to function prevents the country from taking full advantage of opportunities available internationally.

He explained that European Union funds cannot reach Kosovo at the necessary level, while the country is also being prevented from signing important trade agreements with countries with which it needs such ties.

Mehmeti added that delays in making the institutions operational have a direct impact on investment and the implementation of development projects.

In conclusion, Faton Mehmeti emphasized that funds intended for economic development, investment and a range of other processes depend on the proper functioning of institutions. According to him, the longer their formation is delayed, the more severe the political, economic and international consequences will be for Kosovo.

Media sources from within the party said that four of the main figures of this political entity did not take part in the meeting called by chairman Lumir Abdixhiku.
