Local residents have raised harsh accusations against the local authorities, claiming that the recently installed dams to curb floods are the cause of this tragedy.

Although the forensic report confirmed drowning as the cause of death, locals claim that these structures have created deep mud-filled pits, which prevented the teenager from getting out of the water.

The 15-year-old boy had entered the Osum’s flow to cool off while working with his father on the land. As soon as the parent noticed his son was in danger, he immediately jumped into the river, but for the young man it was already too late.

His father entered the water to save him, but brought the boy to the bank with no signs of life. Police officers and an ambulance went to the scene, and the victim was transported to the morgue of Berat Regional Hospital, where he will undergo a forensic autopsy.

The investigative team at the scene is continuing its work to fully clarify and document the circumstances of the incident, as well as to determine the cause of the drowning.

Preliminarily, it is suspected that the 15-year-old accidentally drowned while bathing in the river.
